Street Pastors' Commissioning
Richard's Funeral
It was a privilege to attend the commissioning of the eleven new Street
pastors last Friday in a bilingual service at Capel Penuel. Joy Ostle,
who was one of those being commissioned read part of the Old
Testament lesson.
Tributes and thanks were expressed to the Street pastors by the
police, city council and the community.
Rev. Olaf Davies in his address emphasised the fact that although
they were called "volunteer" Street Pastors, in reality they had been
called by God, probably with some prodding. Like some of the biblical
heroes, they were a motley bunch, often reluctant to respond to God's
call, giving a variety of excuses before answering the call.
Unfortunately, the uniforms had not been delivered, but each was
given a copy of the latest book “Faith on the Streets”, by the Rev. Les
Isaac, OBE, founder of the Street Pastors.
It was wonderful to share fellowship with so many denominations over
excellent cake.
A new group will start training in the New Year, and more Prayer
partners are needed. Anne Jackson.
Thank-you to all who were involved in making this service and tea go
so smoothly, and helping it to reflect Richard's warmth and musicality.
Thanks also for the beautiful flowers and to the sound and vision
expert. I am really grateful for the many cards, visits and phone calls,
too. Such a show of Christian love! Jeannie Hatton.
