The program offers a number of ways to reduce the environmental impact of the event. As an event planner, you will benefit from three areas: 1. High-performance facilities At our high-performance building, we focus on energy conservation, water conservation, and using products and materials with minimum indoor polluting contaminants (page 7). 2. Standard sustainable practices Standard sustainable practices, which are implemented seamlessly into our operations, include resource conservation, air quality pollution prevention, recycling, and sustainable purchasing procedures. These practices add value to your sustainable event without any additional work or cost required from you (page 10). 3. Green meeting options We also have a menu of optional services to make your event even greener. The Green Meeting Concierge will customize our offering to meet your sustainability goals. Please note: certain services require a request in advance and may incur an additional cost (page 16). SANDS ECO360˚ MEETINGS PLANNING TOOL 4 SANDS ECO360° MEETINGS PLANNER GUIDE Through the Sands ECO360° Meetings program, you will benefit from the best environmental practices in place at our Las Vegas properties, including The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands Expo and Convention Center. We designed a Sands ECO360° Meetings planner checklist below to guide you through using this planning tool. Your Green Meeting Concierge will work closely with you throughout the entire process. Our goal is to make the experience as convenient for you as possible. Plan a Green Meeting Set your sustainable event goals with your Green Meeting Concierge who will then customize a program to meet your objectives (page 16). Review the “High-performance Facilities” (page 7) and the “Standard Sustainable Practices” (page 10). These features and practices are already in place and don’t require any additional effort or cost. In your event communication, you can assure your stakeholders (corporate executives, exhibitors, attendees, etc.) that this venue has a comprehensive sustainability program. Evaluate the “Green Meeting Options” (page 16) with your Green Meeting Concierge and select the desired options should you decide to go above and beyond in planning your green event. Request a Sands ECO360° Event Impact Statement (page 19), which covers the sustainability results of your event. It will take about four to six weeks after the event to produce the report. If you have any special reporting needs, please communicate them to your Green Meeting Concierge at least three months prior to the event so he or she can identify the best solution for you without compromising the opportunity to obtain critical data. If you decide to organize a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event for your attendees to make a positive impact on the Las Vegas community, our partners have prepared wonderful “Community Engagement Programs” for you (page 21). “Experience Culture of Las Vegas” (page 26). While Las Vegas is most famous for The Las Vegas Strip, there is an array of cultural activities that your staff, exhibitors, and attendees can enjoy during their stay. Encourage the use of “Public Transportation in Las Vegas” (page 28). Communications We have developed several sample letters for you to communicate your event’s sustainability efforts to exhibitors and attendees to encourage their participation: Exhibitor donation participation letter Exhibitor recycling participation letter Sands ECO360° Meetings attendee guide SANDS ECO360˚ MEETINGS PLANNING TOOL 5 PLAN A GREEN MEETING 07 SECTION 1: HIGH-PERFORMANCE FACILITIES 10 SECTION 2: STANDARD SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES 16 SECTION 3: GREEN MEETING OPTIONS 19 SECTION 4: SANDS 360˚ EVENT IMPACT STATEMENT SAMPLE 21 SECTION 5: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS 26 SECTION 6: EXPERIENCE CULTURE OF LAS VEGAS 28 SECTION 7: PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN LAS VEGAS SANDS ECO360˚ MEETINGS PLANNING TOOL 6 SECTION 1: HIGH-PERFORMANCE FACILITIES Our buildings have earned third-party environmental certifications, which demonstrate our focus on conserving natural resources and improving occupants’ health and comfort. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of our ongoing sustainability efforts regarding outreach to the local Las Vegas community. When events come to Las Vegas, thousands of products are packaged and shipped for the event. At the end of the event, some exhibitors choose to leave their items on the show floor due to excessive return shipping costs. In previous years, our staff simply gathered what were left on the floor and donated them to a local charity. Our goal is to increase our community outreach and the amount of donations to the community. To achieve this goal, we would love to have your participation. We encourage you to leave show items that you do not plan to ship back on the event floor so we can donate them to a local charity on your behalf. In doing so, you can reduce shipping costs as well as carbon emissions from transportation. Your items will be distributed throughout a network of local charities based on the type of materials you donate. Save money, save the environment and help the community. Preferred donation items are: Show bags and Lanyards Pens, notepads and office equipment Promotional and giveaway items Furniture and household items Bottled Water If you would like to donate materials, please visit the Sands Expo Business Center to pick up donation stickers. Please place the stickers on the items for donation and Sands Expo Outreach team will pick them up at your convenience or at end of the event. Thank you very much for your consideration in this matter. It will save you time and help reduce the amount of paper consumed at the event. Stay at a green hotel. The Venetian and The Palazzo are both LEED certified, which is the internationally accepted benchmark for design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. They are also connected to our Sands Expo and Convention Center, which eliminates your need to organize transportation to your event. When feasible, download and use a mobile event app, or sign up for social media for the event to reduce the use of publications and printed event updates. Before you leave home, remember to turn off all lights, unplug appliances, and adjust the temperature on your air conditioner/heater. This will reduce the energy consumption at your home while you are away. Travel Green DRIVING TO LAS VEGAS Try to use fuel-efficient vehicles and travel in a group. More people traveling in a single vehicle reduces fuel consumption per person, compared to when each individual drives to the event alone. If you rent a car, try to rent a hybrid, alternative fuel, electric, or fuel-efficient vehicle. The Venetian and The Palazzo both offer free electric vehicle charging stations. Carpets in the suites are certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus program. Used soap and bottled amenities are collected and repurposed by Clean the World, a non-profit organization that distributes hygiene products to people in need around the world. Occupancy sensors are installed in 3,000+ Palazzo suites to adjust temperature automatically according to guest occupancy. One of the largest rooftop solar-thermal systems in the United States provides hot water for the swimming pools and spas at The Palazzo. 680 solar photovoltaic panels generate 116 kW (DC) of electricity. There are several measures you can take to further reduce your impact and truly “Stay Green” while on property: Participate in our “Eco Linen Program” and choose not to have your towels and sheets changed daily. Towels will be replaced if they are placed on the floor, so please hang your towels back up. Before you leave the suite, turn off all the lights, adjust the suite temperature to conserve energy (raise the temperature in the summer and lower the temperature in the winter) and shut the blinds during the summer months to reduce air conditioning demand. When in public areas, use recycling bins on the casino floor and in the meeting space to help with the property recycling efforts.
