November News From
Needles & Pins
Dear Friends,
When we opened the door on November 1 of this year, we began
our twenty-first year of business.
Twenty years of seven-days-a-week retail operation is not a bad
run; in fact, it comes out to more than 7,000 days of keeping the lights on
and rotary cutters rolling along. That doesn’t count, of course, the many,
many late sewing nights needed to produce shop models and class preparation. It’s been a huge undertaking, all made possible by the tremendous
work of teachers, staff, family members and the generous loyal patronage
of customers past and present.
But times have changed, your lives have changed, and so have
Thimbleberries, early 2000’s
ours. The twenty year mark is a milestone, and an opportune time to move
into something new and exciting.
I’m pleased to introduce our new name, Needles & Pins Sewing
Studio, a new location as of January 1, 2015: The Business Factory of
Frederick at 801 Eighth Street in Frederick, (just down the street from our
current location) and a new focus on classes and our online store. We
will be closing our current retail shop as of December 15, 2014.
Our new location provides us with seven-day-a-week options for
classes and groups in a larger space that is completely secure (no open
Autumn, 1990’s
public doors), lots of free parking and easy access. We will continue to
offer monthly sewing machine service by Michael Sneeringer, open sew options, applique and stitchery
groups. Because we will continue to stock our online store, hold classes and be able to vend at quilt
shows and quilt group meetings, we will also have a variety of products available upon request, including
a variety of notions, interfacings, patterns, books, the complete line of wool felt and some fabrics. You
will also be able to schedule meetings with long-arm quilters as has been done in the past. With this
change, these activities will be done more by appointment or on specific days of the week.
Of course, the biggest change— and the hardest one for us — will be not seeing each of you as we
do now. We’ve been honored to watch your children and grandchildren grow up, applauded your quilting successes, and shared in your worries over aging parents and serious illnesses. We’ve all grieved together as family members, friends and fellow quilters have passed away. As we prepare to make these
changes, the degree to which we have been part of a special community — more than just a retail store
with customers—has been on my mind. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your lives with us over
the last two decades, and I hope that you’ll continue to join us for classes and other activities in this new
chapter of our lives.
In this newsletter, you’ll find more specifics on our closeout sale, sales of store fixtures, upcoming
classes and a special sale of quilts and baskets coming up Thanksgiving weekend. Please help us share
that news with friends.
With my deepest thanks,
Cindy

New Fabrics & Holiday Inspiration
We have two new groups of
fabrics from Red Rooster
that will inspire you to get
moving on your sewing for
the (quickly approaching)
holiday season.
The other line is
Warm Wishes, and
this snow folks line
has proven popular
since it arrived! The
panel and accompanying pieces have a
cheery teal and red
look that make a
bright, modern statement for the season.
We’ve made a runner
that we’re hanging
(for lack of table
space)!
Woodland Christmas
adds gold metallic shine to
traditional motifs of sleds,
poinsettias, pinecones and cardinals in this group of eight
prints. We’ve made a pillowcase and are on to a tree skirt
using these pieces.
Quilt, Basket & Model Sale This Month
Every few years, we’ve held a
sale of quilts, hangings, runners and other shop models.
We’re having another sale this
month on Thanksgiving
Weekend: November 28, 29
and 30. 10-6 on Friday and
Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday.
If you are having out-of-town,
non-quilting but quilt-loving
guests for the weekend, this
may be the perfect holiday
shopping trip for them! You’ll
find items for various holidays
and seasons, as well as baby
quilts and bed quilts.
We also have some Longaberger baskets to sell. Stop by to
see if we can help you fill in
any holes in your collection!
Please avoid bringing food
or drink into the shop during this sale.
Please know that we will be
placing purchased items in
our bags and securing
them. For this weekend only, we ask you to NOT bring
your own shopping bags.
December Sewing Machine Service
Michael Sneeringer of The
Sew’n Place in Chambersburg
will be here on Monday, December 8th. Please call to
reserve your time for your machine to be serviced or scissors
sharpening.
You can drop off your machine
that morning or on Sunday,
December 7. Please remember
that to pay Michael with a
credit card, you must pick up
your machine while he is here.
Otherwise, payment is by cash
or check.
Michael will continue to
service machines each
month at our new location
after January 1.
Also, if Santa is considering a
new machine for you this year,
be sure to visit Michael at his
shop. You’ll find more information at www.sewnplace.com.

Shopping & Classes In Our New Home

You can continue to shop with us locally! Because we are maintaining our online store and
offering classes, we will continue to meet your needs for items you might not find elsewhere (ex:
Retayne, basting spray, batting on the roll, wool felt, Creative Grids rulers, etc.) as well as regular
items. We will continue to place special orders for you whenever possible, including books
and patterns. Later in December, we will finalize plans for times when we will be open so you
can stop in to pick up ordered purchases.

You can continue to drop off and pick up quilts and meet with area long-arm quilters.
Again, the change is that it will be on specific days and times and/or by appointment.

What about fabric? We will continue to carry some fabrics for sale both online and locally. We
hope to continue blocks-of-the-month, and we hope to vend at some quilt shows. You can see what
we have at any time by looking at our online store.

Classes, groups and individual instruction will start again in January! Regular monthly
groups and the Minglewood groups will meet in December, and then we will start again in January in our new location. We will send out another newsletter by mid-December with class
and group listings. Meanwhile, let us know what you would like to do in the new year!

To sum up: If you are long-distance customer, we hope you’ll continue to shop with us through
the online store and come for classes. If you are a local customer, we hope you’ll take classes, join
us in groups and open sew sessions and call us to arrange pick-up on items you need. Please let
us know how we may be of help to you.
