My dear friends, this weekend we conclude the liturgical year of the Church and this is probably a good opportunity for us to pause and to evaluate our faith. The Church proposes to conclude our liturgical year with the Solemnity of Christ the King, what does it mean for us that Jesus is the King of the Universe? When the Lord came into this world, he said he was coming to establish the “Kingdom of God” among us. He never call himself “king”, but when Pontius Pilate asked him if he was the expected king, he accepted it; over the time we have recognized Him as well as the supreme Lord of the world, history and of our own lives. Pope Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King on March 11th, 1925, encouraging Catholics to publicly acknowledge that the Lord of the Church is Christ the King. Later this event moved to close the liturgical year highlighting the importance of Christ as the center of world, history, and Church. It is the Alpha and Omega (Α – Ω), the beginning and the end. Christ reigns in the people with his message of love, justice and service. His Kingdom is eternal and universal, that is, forever and for all men. If I recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and King of my life and my heart, if I accept his Gospel as the only rule, if I faithfully fulfill his commandments and dedicate my best of myself to Him, be sure many blessings will be bestowed. Parts of the blessings we receive are the same that we share. I want to express my gratitude with all of you, as I mentioned to you last week if it is possible for you to increase a little your weekly offering, even if this is done only once a month. All your efforts will be well rewarded. As we conclude this liturgical year, think again about the question of your my faith is transforming your life and your actions; how your desire for holiness is manifested in service to God and your neighbor; how can we continue to grow not only as a community and church but also as a person. This Thursday also you will have the opportunity to THANK GOD with your love ones for the many good things that have happened. We will also give thanks for those moments where probably we have experienced pain, illness, grief or any other sacrifice, for we have the sure and certain hope " We know that all things work together for good for those who love God" (Rom 8:28). Vivat Iesus, vivat christus rex ! Sacred Heart of Jesus help us to recognized your Sacred Royalty, and help us to establish your Kingdom in midst. Amen. Fr. Caesar A. Rubiano 594 23 November 2014 HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY! “In all circumstances, give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. You will find included in your envelope packet a special envelope for Christmas flowers. Please use it to make any contributions and indicate a memorial or dedication for our Christmas decorations. Drop it in the collection basket along with your usual offering by November 30. A memorial list will be published later. CHRISTMAS CLEANING We will be doing our annual clean at Saint Joachim Church on Wednesday December 10, 2014 at 6:00 PM, and we need your help! Shepherds are on the lowest rung of society, kings are at the top. But God says, through the prophet Ezekiel, that the Messiah will lead in a way very different from earthly authorities who lord it over their people and cause harm with their poor leadership. Our King takes on the job himself. Christ, like a shepherd, will give rest, seek out the lost, bring back the strayed and scattered ones. He will heal the wounded and bind up the injured. He does not delegate, but will “shepherd them rightly.” We have a king who cares for us and who is not afraid to “judge between one sheep and another” (Ezekiel 34:17). TODAY’S READINGS: First Reading: Ezekiel 34: 11-12 Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26 Gospel: Matthew 25:3146 The Lord Jesus is our shepherd. At the end, at his coming, he will hand over the Kingdom to his Father. He will “judge between one sheep and another, between rams and goats”, between those who have lived their lives for others, and those who have lived for themselves. From Ordo 2013 REFLECTION QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK ADULT: What changes in lifestyle does today’s Gospel call you to? ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE CHILD: When Jesus comes to judge us, what will he be looking for in our lives? Whether it has been just a few weeks or a few years, celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Advent Season. Our Lady of the Angels Advent Penance Service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, 16 December 2014 at 7:00PM. A number of priests will be available to hear confessions that evening. How worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and divinity, and wisdom and strength and honor. To him belong glory and power for ever and ever. These groups are designed to explore a priestly vocation with other like-minded men through prayer and sharing vocation stories and experiences. They are designed to assist you in discovering if the priesthood is your true vocation and build your relationship with Christ along the way. This Sunday our parish will celebrate this feast with Eucharistic Adoration, beginning with the 11:00 AM Mass, followed by Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament and ending with Procession, Adoration, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. This Solemnity of Christ the King marks the end of the Liturgical year, with a new Liturgical year beginning next Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent. During the Liturgical year, we re-live the life of Christ on earth and we should try to follow His lead in our daily life. This Feast establishes that Jesus is the King of God’s Kingdom. Though many believe that God’s Kingdom refers to life after death, it really refers to God’s presence in our everyday life. Whenever we follow how Jesus lived on earth, showing love to one another, forgiving one another, helping those less fortunate and working toward building a just and peaceful community, God’s Kingdom and loving rule is in operation. An article in Catholic Update, talks about the “three dimensions” of God’s Kingdom: The past - The Kingdom of God has already come in the presence of Jesus Christ as God’s son on earth. By His life and death, he shows us what the Kingdom is like. The present - The Church is called to be a living sign of the Kingdom of God so that everyone, inside and outside of our community, knows that God still lives. We do this by our everyday acts of goodness, by forgiveness and by working for justice and peace. The future - Finally, we must be beacons of hope for the Kingdom to come, where God’s will is recognized and reigns and where God “will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more...” (Rev. 21:14). In the liturgy, we rarely see Jesus act as King, as we see Him helping people, loving all, praying, in agony and finally, as being killed for all of us. Thinking about how Jesus lived, and what He sacrificed, urges us to love Him more. Jesus Christ is truly our King. Spend some time this Sunday with Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe in prayer and thanksgiving for all that our King He has given to us. 594 23 November 2014 Page Eleven OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS PARISH ORGANIZATION & COMMUNITY PARISHES NEWS LADIES OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: Next Corp.
