Bankn tes HOLIDAY 2014 { A Quarterly Report for our Customers } Happy Holidays! As the year winds down, we want to take this time to thank our customers. We are grateful for the pleasure of serving you and meeting your financial needs. We value your patronage and appreciate your confidence in us. All of us here at Salem Co-operative Bank wish you and your families a joyous holiday season with peace and cheer in the New Year! Ann’s Answers Q: Why is Christmas extra special to Ann Lally? A: Ann met her husband Peter on Christmas day. They have been married for 29 years! Q: When shopping for a mortgage, what should people look for? A: It’s important that home buyers consider more than just rate. How do additional fees such as origination, title search or closing costs compare? And just as important is the level of service you will receive during and after the mortgage process. At Salem Co-operative Bank, our relationship doesn’t end when we close the mortgage. We continue to service our customers for the life of the loan. That’s why so many of our customers come back to us when they purchase their next home or look to refinance. Q: It’s often said that you should “pay yourself first”. What are your thoughts on that? {Q&A} best to be prepared. We suggest setting up a ‘rainy day account’ and putting money aside on a regular basis, even if it’s just a small amount. That way, should an emergency occur, you’ll be prepared. And while we’re talking about ‘rainy day accounts’, this is a perfect time to open a new Holiday Club Account. While we start our Club Accounts on November 1, you can sign up for one of these throughout the year. It’s always nice come October to receive that check for holiday shopping, entertaining or just to spend on yourself or your family. Watch this space! In every edition of Bank Notes, our President, Ann Lally, will answer three questions about a wide range of topics. If you’ve got a question for Ann, please email it to our editorial staff (banknotesstaff@salemcoop.com). I absolutely agree. Is your home safe during this holiday season? While many holiday safety tips are just common sense, a little reminder never hurts. Never use lighted candles near trees, boughs, curtains/drapes or with a potentially flammable item. Always remember to check to be sure they are extinguished before heading out or going to bed. Cut off about two inches off the trunk of your fresh tree and put it in a sturdy, water holding stand. Keep the stand filled with water so the tree does not dry out quickly. Many plants are poisonous or can cause severe stomach problems for small children and pets. Plants to watch include mistletoe, holly berries, Jerusalem cherry, amaryllis and poinsettias. Don’t overload extension cords and make sure that your light sets have a UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory) label. Use them only as directed – indoor lights for indoors, outdoor lights for outdoors.
