PORTO SANTO
(Porto Santo Island, Madeira), Portugal
Tuesday, 30th December
PST 01 – Porto Santo Island Tour
(morning) – approx. 4 hrs.
Porto Santo is so called because of the shelter it
provided during a violent storm to João Gonçalves
Zarco and Tristão Vaz, the Portuguese mariners
credited with discovering the island. The island
boasts a 9 kilometre long yellow sand beach, making
it a popular place to relax in the sun.
The first stop on the tour is Calheta at the western
point of the island, where a narrow channel separates
the inlet of Baixo from the main island. On a clear day,
Madeira is sometimes visible from Calheta, and there
are nearly always magnificent views out over the
Atlantic Ocean.
From here, the tour continues Porto Santo Golf Club
for a refreshment stop (refreshments not included)
and Moinho viewpoint before continuing to the
viewpoint of Pico do Castelo, one of the highest
volcanic peaks on the island. The summit of Pico do
Castelo provides some of the best views out over the
island.
After a short photo stop, the tour proceeds to the
north coast and Fonte de Areia, (Fountain in the Sand)
where there is a fountain of mineral water, believed to
have a therapeutic value. This is one of the rare
sources of water on the island, which is as dry as
Madeira is lush.
The last stop on the tour is the view point of Portela,
which overlooks the golden beach and the small town
of Vila Baleira below.
The tour proceeds through the town and back to the
ship."
Subject to a minimum of 6 / maximum of 100 participants
per departure.

It goes on to the golf course heading to the quarry of
Pico de Ana Ferreira with a small speech about the

GENERAL INFORMATION & CONDITIONS
To enhance the enjoyment of your cruise, we have
created a programme of optional shore excursions
designed to show you the highlights of each of our
ports of call. Our Shore Excursion Manager will be
pleased to assist you with your choice of tours,
which will help you make the most of your time
ashore.
HOW TO BOOK
PREPRE- RESERVATION SERVICE
We strongly recommended that you pre-book the
excursions of your choice before the cruise departs
to ensure your place on the tours and to avoid any
disappointment. Some of our excursions do have a
limited capacity. Please complete the enclosed
voucher, (one per cabin is required). Amendments or
cancellations to your pre-booked excursions, can
only be accepted up to 2 weeks before the departure
date of the cruise. After this time, all pre-booked
excursions will be considered as confirmed bookings.
If you take advantage of our pre-booking facility, a
copy of your signed voucher will be passed to the
Shore Excursion Manager on board for his records.
On the day of embarkation, you will need to collect
your pre-booked excursion tickets from the Shore
Excursions Desk on presentation of your voucher.
BOOKING ON BOARD
If you decide you would prefer to book your
excursions on board, just complete the booking form
indicating your tour choices and hand it in at the
Shore Excursions Desk in the Reception area.
Opening hours will be shown in your Daily
Programme. Details of the times when bookings will
close for each Port will be featured in the Daily
Programme.
PREPRE - RESERVED TOURS
All excursions require a minimum number of guests
for them to operate successfully, so even if you have
pre-booked an excursion before departure, we are
unable to guarantee the tour will go ahead until last
bookings are received on board. If the minimum
number required is not achieved the tour may
sometimes have to be cancelled by the local Tour
Agent and in this such case, a full refund will be
issued. The company cannot accept responsibility if
an excursion has to be cancelled by the local Tour
Agent, for reasons beyond our control.
PAYMENT
Payments made on board for Shore Excursions are
debited to your shipboard account. The Shore
Excursion Manager will ask you to sign the booking
form that you agree for the tours to be charged and
that the total is correct and will then issue your tickets
accordingly.
EXCURSION DESCRIPTIONS
These are deemed to be correct at the time of printing
but the planned content of excursions is subject to
last-minute change such as detours because of heavy
traffic or unexpected changes in the means of
transportation. It should be noted that some of the
listed attractions in a tour may be viewed in a different
order to avoid possible congestion. If not mentioned
specifically in the excursions description, there is no
time reserved for shopping.
EXCURSION TIMINGS
The duration times for each excursion shown on the
booking form are approximate and may alter due
mainly to traffic conditions in the local area. On arrival
at the Port, please consult your Daily Programme for
disembarkation procedures. You will be asked to
assemble in the Main Lounge fifteen minutes prior to
a tours scheduled departure time. A member of staff
will then escort each group of participants to the
quayside to join the tour at the appropriate time.
In ports where both morning and afternoon
excursions have been proposed, the timings have
wherever possible, been arranged so passengers
may, if they wish, take advantage of more than one
excursion per day. Lunch on board is scheduled as
much as possible to fit in with the tour schedules, but
passengers selecting two half day excursions should
be aware that your time may be limited.
EXCURSION PRICES
The prices include transport and entrance fees
according to the published itinerary, meals, drinks
and guides where indicated. Children under two years
old, not occupy a seat, will not be charged for the
tours and do not require a ticket. Children aged 12 or
below are entitled to a ‘children special’ price where
indicated. Teens between the ages of 13 to 18 years
will be charged full adult prices.
REFUNDS
Excursions may be cancelled or modified depending
on the number of guests participating. All excursions
are subject to a minimum and maximum number of
participants. If the minimum is not met, excursions
may be cancelled by the local Tour Agent and a full
refund will be issued. It should be noted that all
excursions operate rain or shine.
We regret that we are unable to refund the cost of the
tours which are cancelled by passengers after the
bookings are closed by the Shore Excursion
Manager. However, if the cancellation is for medical
reasons, we would require a certificate from the
Ship’s Doctor and a refund would be issued. Please
note that no refund is payable in respect of meals not
taken on board the ship.
VIDEO AND CAMERA FEES
Whenever available information about video cameras
and camera fees will be conveyed. We cannot be held
responsible if passengers are required to pay fees we

world. Air-conditioned motor coaches are not
available in all of the ports we visit. In some
destinations, local buses are the best available.
