I have met some really amazingly talented people and engaged with many activities. My thinking, ideas and beliefs have been challenged. This has helped to me discover more about myself and others. It was through many spirited intercultural discussions and analyses of world issues, that I realized we are all concerned about making the world a better place, for all. It was the different perspectives we have that showed me that we all want change. But sometimes we just have to be realistic with what it is that we want. My Waterford Kamhlaba UWC experience has been what it has been because of the people who made a lasting impression on my life. I can confidently say that I am a different person from the person I was when I first walked into the gates of this school. - Mkhanyisi Gcebani Gamedze, (Swaziland, WK 2013-14) We sometimes forget that there are eight nationalities represented at the breakfast table on a regular morning, and that wars have been fought over differences, because somehow our extra ordinary diversity has become our everyday life, at Waterford Kamhlaba UWC, a place that has been our home for the past two years. These two years have been absolutely stunning, from the time I’ve spent climbing mountains, to the time I have spent climbing through the pile of Physics papers. I couldn’t have found a better place to call my home and people to call my family than at Waterford Kamhlaba UWC. Admittedly, I’m absolutely terrified to get onto the plane tomorrow, because I’m going to be lost without my people here, and so, I thank you all for an amazing UWC experience. Ngiyabonga ngiyanitsandza! As such the UWC experience at Waterford Kamhlaba has left me with no choice but to learn, not to cram and absorb, but to learn critically. But for me the essence of the UWC lies in the idea that the benefits of this experience and education do not end at a prestigious tertiary education, money and fantastic memories but extend to create a desire to initiate change. Not just change on a grand scale but on a more personal level. To continue trying new things - maybe feminism, helping out at a local primary school or debating the pros and cons of nationalism. Just generally striving to be better - Mumbi Makena Kanyogo, (Kenya, WK 2013-14) Alicia Simba, (Tanzania, WK 2008-14); Vocalist, Panashe Masoha, (Zimbabwe, WK 2013-14); Vocalist, Allegra von Hirschberg, (USA, WK 2008-14); Cielo Naomi Walker, (UK, WK 2008-14); Keyboard, Performing the song “Over the Rainbow” by E.Y.
