2015 Hidden Springs Town Council Candidate Statements Candidates Name: Address: Phone: John Ahrens 12426 N 10th Ave 602-4589 I moved to Idaho in 2007 with my wife Lisa and son Trevor. Our decision to move was predicated on a conscious desire for a new life adventure but was solidified by the lifestyle that we all know as the magic of Hidden Springs. Everything about this community and the people that live here sealed our decision and remains the driving force for our happiness. My professional career is for a global energy company where I manage a group of sales engineers and project execution teams in the western half of the United States. We provide energy management systems to large users of electricity. For example, Boise State University is one of our large clients. My professional life is surrounded by challenges that effect people and that have financial impacts and liabilities. 20 years with the same company, in the same business unit has taught me how to effectively manage very challenging situations with the primary goal of successful resolutions that address both the people and financial aspects of any given obstacle. I have, successfully, served on numerous volunteer board of directors and committees that are not unlike the Hidden Springs Town Association. The most relevant for this discussion was serving for 5 years as a chair on the Old Town Newhall Association, Newhall Ca. This was an elected position with the purpose of facilitating the economic growth of a large commercial and retail business district. Based on my success in that position, I was appointment by the City of Santa Clarita Mayor and City Council to be a chair on the Newhall Redevelopment Committee which had to purpose of securing funds (over $20M) to plan and execute the redevelopment of this famed historical business district with ties to early western films and heroes. These organizations still exist and are implementing the plans and organization that I helped facilitate. This was a very complex agenda and without question there were difficult decisions that affected many people and I believe my caring and thoughtful approach made for a better result that is still thriving today. I feel strongly about the magic that is our community. This valued lifestyle does not come without challenges but I believe that if approached with the following thoughts, we can continue to enjoy living in one of the best communities in the country: 100% open communication. Responsible oversight. Loyalty to our communities core values. Continuing growing together and valuing each other as friends and neighbors. Effectively addressing the obstacles faced today. Responsible vision for the future of our community and residents. I hope to be a part of that strategy by serving on our town’s association. Candidates Name: Address: Phone: Dean Hastriter 12961 N 9th Ave 890-6584 Born and raised in Nampa, I graduated from Boise State University in 1993 with a degree in History after competing throughout the nation as a member of the BSU wrestling team. Forgoing a career in teaching and coaching, I began work in the concrete construction industry upon graduation and have worked as a general and specialty contractor for the past 19 years. My work as a construction manager has helped me hone skills such as problem solving, conflict resolution, affecting compromise among various stakeholders, adherence to deadlines, and a strong desire to contribute quality products and ideas to quality projects. My wife Carrie and I became the sole owners of Hastriter Construction Inc. in 2003 and I have worked closely with developers of planned communities throughout the Treasure Valley ever since. My personal admiration of, and dedication to, outstanding neighborhoods led me to make my home in Hidden Springs in 2005. Carrie and I were honored to become part of this community and we have enjoyed volunteering at Hidden Springs Elementary as well as sponsoring local teams and events in order to help preserve the family-centered lifestyle the Dry Creek Valley has provided us to date. If elected to the HSTA Town Council, I will work diligently to maintain the positive aspects of our community, as well as strive to improve process, communication, and involvement throughout our neighborhood. Candidates Name: Address: Phone: Jacob Hill 4616 W Deerpath Dr 818-472-4028 Hello, I am Jacob Hill, a new member of the Hidden Springs Community declaring my intent to stand for election for the 2015 term. Originally from Idaho Falls, I've also lived in Germany, China, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. but still call Idaho "home." I have a breadth of experience that I believe will help Hidden Springs continue to be one of the best places in the country to live, while restoring confidence in the town government. Trained as an international economist, I have experience analyzing financial data, academic training in accounting, and a record of trustworthiness. Besides being a National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl competitor and an award-winning student leader at my Jesuit alma mater, I was entrusted with confidential information on a daily basis when I worked at a major "K" Street law firm in Washington, D.C. I also have experience in the insurance and import/export industries where clients entrusted me with their financial information. I have also worked as a business consultant for the renewable energy industry. Furthermore, I am a native Idahoan and wish to develop Hidden Springs as a model for the rest of the country to follow, in regards to quality of life. This community's unique integration of wilderness access, modern convenience, and proximity outside of a major city are significant assets that need to be better marketed to potential residents. My business background will help ensure Hidden Springs succeeds financially as well as ecologically. Therefore, I hope you will consider my candidacy based on my passion for teamwork and desire to make this the best place in Idaho to raise a family, buy a new home, or enjoy retirement. Goals for my term: Integrity o Restoring trust in the town council through ethical and responsible leadership o Listening to residents, placing their needs over my own Maintenance o Identifying everything that already works well in the community and enhancing it o Responding to complaints by residents about any shortcomings in community management and rectifying said problems o Ensuring property investments hold or increase in value through community enhancements. o Working with Hidden Springs Elementary to provide the best education in the Treasure Valley; increasing enrichment (Chinese and German classes, for example) Planning o Opposing further expansion of Hidden Springs to the South; in-filling empty lots only o Working with Dry Creek Mercantile management to ensure fmancial and experiential success of their new services o Creating an energy-use master plan to eventually achieve a zero-waste, energy-neutral community. Candidates Name: Address: Phone: Craig Lochner 12924 N Schick’s Ridge Rd. 229-1095 I am a current Councilman and the Treasurer of the Hidden Springs Town Association. I am seeking a second term in this position. My wife (Anita), daughter (Julia) and I have been residents of Hidden Springs since September 2004. Over the years we have seen the community grow and develop with first the help of the developer and then from some fine leadership from the past and current Town Council boards. I want us to preserve the standards we have grown accustomed to in Hidden Springs. We love it here and my goal is to maintain these high standards that make this a family friendly community and preserve a quality of life we are all proud of. I have worked for various insurance companies for the past 35 years, holding positions on the financial side as internal Auditor, Controller, Vice President of Planning and Analysis, and Chief Financial Officer and holding operational positions including chief Operating Officer and President and CEO. I will continue to lend expertise to the financial, planning and budgeting aspect of the Town Council. I am adept at working with all aspects of the operations of a company and those skills easily transfer over to the needs of the community. One of my major strengths is being a good listener and having the ability to get to the real facts of an issue. As a current Town Council member I make sure we get to the facts of the matter rather than what the rumor mill is trying to steer us toward. I continue to strive for improved community communication although this remains difficult given the various ways different members want to receive the information. I am a CPA, have a BBA from the University of Wisconsin with a double major in Accounting and Finance. I remain a Wisconsin Badger fan but have happily converted to a Boise State fan as well. Over the years I have done volunteer work at the school and was an active participant in the “Stop Dynamis” campaign in 2012. This was important to preserve the quality of our air, limit contamination of ground water, and maintain our property values. I am proud to have helped out in this effort.
