The course will incorporate changes for the 2014/2015 regulations, including changes to the ‘Access Arrangements Online’ system. Nick Lait, Head of Examination Services at the JCQ, will be joining us to answer questions. Morning Afternoon *. Caroline is a Specialist Teacher who has practical experience in all areas of the Access Arrangements process and trains for LAs, Universities and SEN Services. Caroline's book ‘Assessment Guidance for Access Arrangements’ was published by GL Assessment. She contributed to the PATOSS/JCQ publication ‘Dyslexia: Assessing the need for Access Arrangements’. Her work has also been published by the TES and the RNIB, and she has worked with various publishers to develop tests. Caroline has been involved with various Ofqual and DfE training and policy projects. Thursday 6th November 10am-4pm *Early Bird Rate £160 (Online £110) Assessing Adult Students for the Disabled Student’s Allowance - Tests, Interpretation & Report Writing A practical course for Specialist Teachers assessing students for the DSA. The course is written from a practitioner’s perspective and will give guidance on writing clear, accurate reports that follow the recommended guidelines. It will also address common issues that arise when assessors are inexperienced. The course tutor is Ros Lehany. Ros was an Adult Dyslexia co-ordinator at Dyslexia Action and has tutored on their Postgraduate certificate course. She works part time at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds where she is responsible for diagnostic assessment, support and the administration of DSA related issues. As an independent consultant (Dyslexia Solutions) she delivers training across the sector and regularly carries out assessments to support DSA applications. From 2008-2012 she was chair of the Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE) and during this time she was part of the Disabled Students Stakeholder Group at Student Loans Company. Ros continues to sit on the executive committee of ADSHE. Thursday 6th & Friday 7th Nov 9.30am-3.30pm *Early Bird Rate £295 (Online £240) Selecting, Using and Interpreting Standardised Tests - Principles for Educational Testing In response to changes to the JCQ regulations concerning Specialist Teachers, Communicate-ed has arranged a two day course helping you to select, administer and interpret the results from standardised tests. Course content: The course will cover key aspects for consideration when choosing standardised tests and the correct administration and interpretation of these tests including: * Reliability and validity * Age appropriate testing * Costs and accessibility of tests * Standardisation * Currency * Interpretation of results * Interpretation of statistical data There will be the opportunity to discuss in depth a selection of tests from the following list: WRIT, WRAT 4, Adult uk Reading Test, DASH, CTOPP 2, WIAT 2 T and Diagnostic Reading Analysis. Please note: this course does not offer accreditation. You will receive a certificate of attendance, but we will not be assessing your skills or knowledge. The course alone is not sufficient to enable delegates to carry out JCQ Access Arrangements assessments. However, alongside other qualifications and experience it could enable you to meet the required criteria. Please email for details. . Sarah is a Specialist Teacher who runs the OCR Level 5 and 7 courses in assessing and teaching students with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia), and offers teaching and assessment of dyslexic learners of all ages through her company ‘DITTAS Ltd’ at her centre in Bromley, Kent http://www.dyslexiaservices.org/. She has extensive experience of teaching and assessing both adult learners and children and lectures locally and nationally on the subject of dyslexia and SpLD. Sarah holds AMBDA and APC status.
