To the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary: Honor and Glory Forever—Amen!
Welcome everyone. Welcome to St Michael and to Sts. Peter and Paul Mission
on the North Shore of Oahu. Today is the Fourth Sunday of Advent as we come ever
closer to the anniversary of Our Lord’s presence among us.
We are also in the midst of our dawn Masses gathering together at 5:00AM each
morning, greeting the new day with hymns of praise - thanking God for His wonderful gift given to everyone of us - the gift of love. Yes, God so loved the world that He
sent His only begotten Son that those who believe in Him might not perish but have eternal life (John
3:16).
In our Gospel, we hear of Mary’s response and trust that God’s promise would be fulfilled. Yes,
Mary believed just as everyone of us should believe that we might be saved in Jesus Christ, her son,
Our Lord. Salvation has truly come upon this world and we will one day be rejoicing in that promise.
In a sense, we could say that Mary is the first human person who could say of Jesus, “This is my
body, this is my blood.” She was the first altar of the Lord - her body a fitting temple!
Speaking of God’s altar and the gift of the Eucharist, our schedule for Christmas will be: Christmas
Eve (December 24th) - our Christmas Mass, at both of our parish sites at 7:00 PM, dedicated to
families with young children. This is one of those times when a great number of families, who do not
come regularly, come to Mass. Let us be welcoming, inviting these families into our midst.
Our traditional Midnight Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Church in Waialua beginning with
hymns and songs sung by our choir at 11:30PM. We should have lots of seating for those coming to
this Mass. We do apologize if we should have insufficient seating.
On Christmas Day, our Christmas Mass, celebrated both at St. Michael, Waialua, and Sts. Peter
and Paul Mission, Waimea Bay, that heralds Isaiah’s announcement “your savior comes!” will be at
9:00AM.
On behalf of Father Lusius Nimu, your incoming pastor and yours truly, Father Chris Keahi, we
wish one and all a very “holy, grace-filled and merry Christmas greeting! This is a very special time
of the year and we encourage everyone to be a little kinder and attentive to the needs of others.
Finally, on the 27th of December, a grand finale as we bid Father Keahi God’s blessings as he ends
his short stay with us and becomes the chaplain of our Sacred Hearts Sisters in Kaimuki.
Fr. Chris Keahi, ss.cc.

The Red Mass has been a tradition in Hawaii since 1955. Customarily celebrated each January, the month
when the state legislature opens, this public liturgy is the church’s prayer to the Holy Spirit for wisdom and
guidance for our islands’ public servants. A 700-year-old tradition in Europe, the Red Mass was introduced in
the United States early last century and has become an annual event in Washington, D.C., and other major
mainland cities. The Mass is named for the color of the vestments used for a Mass of the Holy Spirit.
