November 21, 2014 Simi Valley Flyers General Membership
meeting By: Anthony Aleta
The Simi Valley Flyers club is incorporated as a
nonprofit organization. We are a radio control model
airplane club founded in 1965. We have a 450 ft. by 50
ft. asphalt runway with a 150 ft. by 65 ft. pit area. Our
flying field is located inside Oak Park which is owned
by the County of Ventura. The Simi Valley Flyers
operate, maintain and improve this facility under a lease
agreement with Ventura county.
All inputs to the Newsletter must be sent in by the 18th
of each month to the following E-mail address

The President’s Message – Todd Krugear
Meeting Called to order at 7:45 PM
Todd Krueger began by acknowledging the return of
Chris Jones. He provided an update on his
daughter, Madison, who is coming along well in her
fight against cancer. She is through treatment with
no further planned sessions. Chris expressed a
large amount of appreciation to the club for the
contributions towards Madison’s treatment costs.
The room also warmly acknowledged the presence
of Keith Martin’s wife, especially notable for the
brownies and cookies she sends with Keith to
meetings.
Todd Krueger then brought up the club’s upcoming
th
50 anniversary and that the board will be working
on something to celebrate the occasion
Todd Krueger next brought up the upcoming holiday
party (Sunday, Dec 14, 5 PM at Cisco’s in Thousand
Oaks). He also solicited the room for photos of
airplanes at the field, so that he could put together a
slide show at the upcoming holiday party
Hello SVF’s
The year is coming to a close and I want to say Thank you to the
Board Members for their time and dedication to the club. We will
be saying goodbye to Ron Scott who has been publishing and
writing for our monthly newsletter and Anthony Aleta who has
been the club secretary for 2 years. Ken Milbertt will be our new
newsletter publisher and we are currently looking for a secretary.
Sean Slattery volunteered to be our club photographer.
I can’t wait until next year to see what Santa delivered to everyone.
See you at the field,
Todd,………….
TheVice President’s Message – Keith Martin
Todd Krueger next presented the Treasurer’s report
in the stead of Bob Fricke. The club is down $4263
for the year, driven by the runway repaving
expenses.
Todd Krueger then brought up the proposed rule
changes published in the newsletter up for vote
(updating the Webmaster role into a more holistic
Communications Director role, representing the work
that Bill Luckie has been performing). The vote was
almost unanimous in favor. One vote abstained.
Amendment proposal passed as published in the
November 2014 newsletter.
Todd Krueger next brought up the bump in the pit
area and the work to grind it down. The work is
almost complete. It just needs to be smoothed out.
(None this month)
See you at the field.
Keith, ……………
Todd Krueger then broached some recent safety
incidents, particularly about members who have
multiple planes, all rigged to one radio without a
model match capability. In these recent incidents,
the members did not deactivate their planes when
they were down and brought up another plane also
bound to the same radio, causing all the planes to
move.

Todd Krueger also updated the club on the
previously mentioned BBQ area. It is still a work in
progress, delayed by unfavorable weather
conditions. Upon discussion, Bill Stulick brought up
some pavers that he happens to have in his
possession. He leaned towards donating them to
the club. Todd Krueger will follow up.
Keith Martin solicited a volunteer for raffle ticket
sales at the holiday party. Sean Slattery
volunteered.
Andy Weir then delivered the membership report.
The club has 107 members. He solicited the room
for updates to contact info.
Anthony Aleta next announced his intention to step
down from the Board at the end of the current term.
The room thanked him for his service. He
encouraged members to consider running for a
soon-to-be vacant board position.
Anthony Aleta also made a motion to have the
minutes as published in the newsletter approved.
Vote was unanimous in favor.
Todd Krueger then solicited Board Nominations.
None were made.
Show and Tell was started by James from JB
Hobbies (http://www.jb-hobbies.com). His main
focus is in 3D planes and harder to find planes in the
United States, along with an assortment of other
models. Some examples were the L4, the Pilatus
porter, the Decathalon. He carries brands such as
Vinh Quang (VQ for all the Hobby People fans), Flite
Model (well established in Asia – 15 years) and
Seagull Models. He can source a variety of planes
from Little Electrics to 100 cc gas. He also carries
DLA motors. He also brought in a few planes that
generated buzz around the room, like a cub, an
Sbach, a Taylorcraft and an MSXR Extra. The
meeting ended to give members an opportunity to
check out the samples James brought in and ask
questions.
Meeting Ended at 8:45 PM
