DATES TO REMEMBER

SCHOOL ROLL 221
Final assembly at 2:00pm and last day of school for 2014.
Kia Ora te Whānau!
This week’s word: kaukau (swim)
E mōhio ana koe ki te kaukau?
(Do you know how to swim?)
Last Week’s Visitors
It was lovely to welcome some students from Belmont Intermediate School last week, including several former Bayswater
children. The class from BIS had been making picture books for younger readers to enjoy. They brought their books to school
and read them to children in Rooms 1, 7, 8 and 9.
We were also pleased to see Claire Edwards, who visited school with her new
baby, Isla. As you can see from the picture, both are doing very well!
End of the Year
Many thanks to the parents and whānau who attended our prize giving assembly
yesterday. For me, the best part of all was hearing and seeing the children’s
genuine delight as their classmates and friends stepped up to receive awards. It
is a wonderful attribute to be able to celebrate so wholeheartedly the achievement
of others.
The prize giving is the last, formal event of the year. Tomorrow, we will celebrate
the time that Evan Monkman and Catherine Ford have spent with us and also
farewell the children of Year 6 who will be leaving for intermediate school. All are
welcome to come along to what is a fun, informal occasion, starting at 2pm. At the
end of assembly, school will be over for the year!
Reports and Classes for 2015
Yesterday, you will have received your child’s end of year, summative report and
National Standards report (if applicable). Also in the envelope, you will have found
information about your child’s new teacher, classroom stationery and start of year
interview. In the past, we have allocated times for start of year interviews. This
year, we have given you the opportunity to choose your own interview time, to suit
your schedule. We have always had a very high attendance rate for start of year
interviews and we are hopeful that this will continue with the new system. If you
are unable to make an appointment, because you do not have easy access to the
internet, please telephone or pop in and we will help you with this. As with all of
our interviews, children are expected to attend along with their parent/s or
caregivers.
Many of our children live part time with two parents not in the same house. We endeavour to ensure that everyone has all the
information they need about their child. If you require an additional copy of the end of year report, please check first with your
child that two were not sent home. If one has not been made available to you, please contact your child’s current class teacher
before the end of term and s/he will rectify this.
Three teachers will be new to our school next year. We were lucky to have had Nadia Lazarus with us for the morning
yesterday and she was introduced to all the children she will be teaching next year. Meike Scott joined us for assembly and was
back in again today to make sure she has met all of her class. One parent enquired as to whether Mieke is the same person
who used to work at Bayswater several years ago and who was in the New Zealand Ultimate Frisbee team! Yes, that’s her!
Norah Wilson (who will be teaching the New Entrants next year) is in school today and tomorrow so if you have a younger child
starting at the beginning of next year and you would like to meet her, please feel free to pop in.
Farewell Year 6
A fond farewell to all our lovely Year 6 children. You are ready for intermediate school and we wish you all the very best! Come
back to see us - and show us your smart uniforms! We will miss you all.
