On October 7, SK Daniel Weaver PFN passed away. Dan and Lady Diane
were very active members of BVM, until Dan became seriously ill about
eight years ago. Dan served as Faithful Navigator from 2000-2002. For
several years SK Dan and Lady Diane chaired the Easter Flower Sale.
Remember Dan in your prayers and pray for Diane and her family as they
grieve his loss.
November is the month we remember those who have died. On November 6
there was a Memorial Mass for the deceased members of St. Nicholas
Council and Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly. There was a rosary at 6:30pm
followed by the Holy Mass at 7pm at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church.
Refreshments were served after Mass in the Fr. Miksus Hall.
On October 23 BVM honored PFN Doug Van Buren with a PFN dinner.
After dinner several speakers honored Doug and he was presented with a
sword commemorating his 2 years of service as Faithful Navigator. I would
also like to thank SK John Corbat and Lady Bernice for all the hard work
they did in making the PFN Dinner a success.
The BVM Color Corps continues to be requested for many events. Thanks to
our CC Commander, Larry Sulikowski and all of our Sir Knights that have
been able to participate.
Our Christmas party is set for December 18, 2014 at Villa Pennas on Hayes
south of Hall Road. Our Faithful Captain, Bob Bogedin, has been working to
ensure all will go well with this event. Please consider attending this social
gathering of Sir Knight and Ladies. The food is very good and the deserts,
provided by LOTA members are excellent. Come; enjoy a wonderful evening
with your follow Sir Knights and their Ladies. Please let Bob know what your
entrée selections will be.
(586) 247-0334
November 13 there will be an officers meeting at 7pm at the Ss. Cyril &
Methodius Activity Center. We will need to meet in the room where LOTA
meets, because St. Nicholas Council is distributing MI checks in our usual
meeting room.

Lady Joanne and I wish all the SKs and Ladies a Happy Thanksgiving.
Fraternally,
SK Michael Gray

Dear Ladies:
At the October meeting we discussed having another food collection for the Veteran’s Food Pantry. All you have to
do is bring your donations to the November meeting. We will take care of delivering everything. Remember not
only food items but they can also use paper goods.
Also at the October meeting we were asked by the Faithful Captain SK Bob Bogedin if we would make a selection
from a list he obtained from Villa Penne. We voted on four choices for our Christmas Dinner. We always have a
good turnout and I hope this year is no exception.
We will be having the Christmas Basket Raffle at the Christmas Dinner as this is the only fund raiser for LOTA this
year. I hope everyone is thinking about what they will put in their basket for the raffle. You can make your own
basket or get together with other Ladies to create one basket. Everyone really enjoys this fun addition to our annual
celebration.
I want to thank all of you for attending SK Doug’s appreciation dinner. I was so happy to see all of you there.
Thank you for the beautiful flowers, and the gift card for dinner at Fillipa’s Restaurant. We will both enjoy that.
November is All Soul’s month, so hopefully everyone will be able to say an extra Rosary for Our Beloved Dead.
There will be a Memorial Mass for the Sir Knights and Ladies who have passed away, on Thursday, November 6,
at SSt. Cyril and Methodius. There will be a Rosary at 6:30 and the Mass at 7PM.
Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful Fall
weather!

Past Faithful Navigator Appreciation Dinner
I would like to thank everyone who attended the Past Faithful Navigator Appreciation Dinner for Doug Van
Buren. It was held on October 23, 2014 at Saint Blase Parish, The Home of Pope John Paul I Council.
There were 48 in attendance. We all came to show PFN Doug Van Buren just how much we appreciated his
contributions to The Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly as our Navigator.
After becoming The Faithful Navigator, Doug took on the job of Texas Hold-em Chairman for the Blessed Virgin
Mary Assembly. During his term as Navigator we had (8) successful Texas Hold-em events between December of
2012 through June of 2014.
If you didn’t come to this event, you not only missed out on a great dinner, but lots of humor and laughs from the
speakers at Doug’s expense. But he was a good sport about it, as you would expect.
Some of the speakers were, District No.1 Master John Hundiak, PFN Joe Honce, current Navigator Michael Gray,
current Captain Robert Bogedin, Color-Corps Commander Larry Sulikowski and yours truly Comptroller John M
Corbat.
In the tradition of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly, Doug Van Buren was presented a Sword (with a white
handle) engraved with his Name, Title & Term in office, (Doug Van Buren PFN 2012-2014) on one side of the
blade and (Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly 1839) on the other side of the blade.
Doug’s sword is on order but we presented a replica of what his will look like by using the sword belonging to PFN
Joe Honce. Thank you SK Joe Honce.
Lady Sonia Honce and Lady Sylvia Bieniek presented a gift to Lady Joan Van Buren on behalf of the LOTA.
I would like to give a special thank you to,
• SK John Morgan, for taking care of the dinner arrangements,
• SK Michael Gray, Lady JoAnn & their daughter Lori for helping Lady Bernice and me to set up the hall the
morning of the event,
• Lady Bernice, for running around with me to make sure we had everything necessary to make this event a
success.
• Thanks to all of you who stuck around and helped with the cleanup.
Thank you,
Faithful Comptroller
John M Corbat
Thank you from the Past Faithful Navigator
Lady Joan and I would like to thanks the members of the BVM & LOTA for the wonderful “Past Faithful Navigator” dinner
and evening.
I am grateful to those Sir Knights and Ladies and Brother Knights and spouses that attended the dinner. Thank you to our
District Master, SK John Hundiak for attending the dinner and Faithful Navigator, SK Michael Gray and BVM assembly for
the “Past Faithful Navigator” gift.
Joan was surprised and appreciated the flowers and gift card from the Ladies of the Assembly. My special thanks to SK John
Corbat and Lady Bernice for their efforts in putting the whole event together. It was most enjoyable, great job!!
Doug Van Buren, PFN
Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly 1839
THANKSGIVING PRAYER
This Thanksgiving let those of us who have much and those who have
little gather at the welcoming table of the Lord. At this blessed feast, may
rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve on another and
to walk together in God's gracious world. With thankful hearts we praise
our God who like a loving parent denies us no good thing.
