Weekly Briefing - Clarencourt Cycling Club
Weekly Briefing 18/12/2014 | clarencourt@googlemail.com | www.clarencourt.com | 07806 284911
This Week
Thursday 11th December 2014
Roger Smith, Andy Huddart Trevor with OHG to Barnes Green. 62 miles.
Mick Ayliffe to Tanhouse to meet up with a very cold and depleted OHGOHG.
Spirit of Christmas the Surrey League cheque came back through the post from god knows where.
Bob Green lead Andrew Adams and Dave Rapson on a jolly around Horton Country Park. Much laughing was heard
and new trails discovered - by accident.
Saturday 13th December 2014
Bill Martin, Bob Green, Dave Rapson, Mick Curtis and Mick Ayliffe on MTBs to Bike Beans for breakfast. The two Micks
direttisima and the other three over the Downs with frequent meetings with race horses that necessitated route
changes. All home together over Ashtead Common and Horton Park.
Sunday 14th December 2014
Decisions, decisions! Was it too frosty to ride safely or not? Trevor and Dave called it off. Andrew Adams, Mick Ayliffe,
Bill Martin and Vinny's pal Mark turned up at Cheam where it was 3 degrees C. Mick decided not to ride having
slipped a bit on the way to the station. He left the other three to decide for themselves. Vinny didn't show because
Fulham beat Leeds yesterday and Val was at home making a Christmas pudding.
Met up with Bill Martin and welcome newcomer and friend of Vinny, Mark, at Cheam. Mick arrived to say that ride
cancelled as very icy. Bill suggested a coffee and then make a decision re riding. Good call! As luck would have, after
a pleasant coffee in Cheam, the frost and ice disappeared fairly quickly to allow Andrew Adams, Bill Martin and Mark
to head for Epsom, Leatherhead on main roads then by agreement headed for Clandon via Bookham and Effingham.
In brilliant sunshine we rode up Sheepleas and then down Staple Lane to Clandon for coffee. Route back was via
Ockham and Cobham. A very enjoyable day. Some 48 miles for me. Look to meeting up with Mark again. Apparently
he rides quite a bit with his father in law so hopefully we shall see them both on a ride soon.
Andrew Adams

JOIN THE GRUPPO SPORTIVO 'STIQUE ON STRAVA
We’ve reached that stage of the year when cyclists need to draw on that extra bit
of willpower to get out of the house or office, get on a bike, and put in some cycling
graft. It’s too easy to melt into the mince pies and Christmas spirit(s)!
Here at 'Stique, we believe this grit and determination singles out the serious
cyclist.
We'll be doing our best too to get out of the office and put in some solid miles to
work off the mince pies and mulled wine. And we hope you'll make the effort with
us. Show us what you can do by joining our virtual cycling team on Strava.
We’ve called it Gruppo Sportivo to remember the days of the great Domestiques
(or ‘Stiques!), whose grit and determination knew no boundaries.
Please take a moment and have a look at our Strava club page and, if you're
feeling motivated, join us and show us what you’re made of!
If you join GS Stique before 31-Dec-14, we’ll knock 10% off the Multilever for you.
Just type in the offer code: GSS2014
Get yourself kitted out with the ‘Stique Multilever. It brings
you multi-function levers made from metal-replacement,
engineering-grade plastic, with space for your key
accessories – £1/€1 or 25c coins, a heart-rate monitor
battery, spare chain-links and puncture repair pads – plus a
spoke wrench and bottle opener! And we’re now including
the 'Stique-design neoprene case; all for £24.99

NOW ON SALE:
With rare film footage of the time, extended interviews with Engers today, and
contributions from his colleagues and his rivals, this highly personal film from Ray
Pascoe is an intimate portrait of a great rider, and of a vanished era in the sport of
time-trialling.
For those with memories of those years, and for all those who care about the
history of Cycle Sport, this film is a must see.
A film by Ray Pascoe
