The Twelve Day of Christmas
You’re all familiar with the Christmas song, “The Twelve
Days of Christmas.” It had a quite serious purpose when it
was written. Catholics in England during the period 1558
to 1829 were prohibited from any practice of their faith by
law - private or public. The song was used to teach
catholics the tenets of their faith. The “true love”
mentioned refers to God Himself. The “me” who receives
the presents is the baptized person.
The partridge stands for Christ, who gathers his own
under his wings - God’s first gift.
Two turtle doves - the Old and New Testaments
of the Bible.
Three French Hens symbolize the gifts of the Magi; the
persons of the Trinity; or Faith, Hope and Charity.
Four Calling Birds remind us of the four evangelists:
Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
Five Golden Rings suggest the first five books of
the Old Testament, the Torah.
Six Geese a Laying - the six days of creation.
Seven Swans remind us of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Eight maids represent the people saved in the
Ark or the Eight Beatitudes.
Nine Ladies represent the fruits of the Spirit (Galations
5:22) or the nine ranks of angels.
Ten Lords stand for the Ten Commandments.
Eleven Pipes represent the eleven apostles who
were faithful.
Twelve drummers remind us of the articles of
the Apostles Creed,
the gates of Heaven or the tribes of Israel.

2015 Parish Offering Envelopes
The 2015 Parish Offering Envelopes are available
for pick up in the foyer.
If you do not currently have a set and would like to begin
using envelopes, call the parish office or fill out the form on
the table near the envelope sets. Offertory envelopes are
beneficial if you make weekly contributions to the parish.
Parish envelopes are necessary if you wish to receive an
income tax receipt.
PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY ENVELOPES FROM
PAST YEAR’S. Since we have re-numbered some sets, if
you use a set from a prior year, it may have been re-issued and
you will not get credit for your donation. Thank you.
2014 Taxation year
All parishioners are reminded that anyone wishing to have
donations “count” for the 2014 taxation year MUST have all
donations into the parish by Saturday, December 27th or
Sunday, December 28th. This is to comply with Canadian
taxation laws which require that all funds be deposited into
our bank account by December 31st, 2014.
Merry Christmas
and a Blessed New Year !
It is always a great joy to celebrate
Christmas; it is especially joyous for our children
and grandchildren. Through them we recall our
past Christmases when we were children
ourselves, excited about the mysterious and kind
Jesus born in Bethlehem. We are fortunate to
hold onto such fond memories. Besides the many
things that this time of year brings to our lives,
one of the most important is the hope of a new
life. Everyone needs this hope to live and to look
forward another day. We need to believe that
there will be a better time for us, that things will
go better with those whom we care for, and
finally, that this life – with all its joys and sorrows has a purpose and ends with a new beginning, a
new and better life. Christ brings this hope to all
who welcome him at Christmas time. May this
hope of new life be the gift you receive this
Christmas. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas
time with your family and friends. And, if you have
no family around, join others! May this Christmas
be for you a time of grace.
God bless you, Fr. Marek
Christmas Begins
Christmas begins on Christmas Day and ends on the Feast
of the Baptism of the Lord. Christians are lucky because, for
us, Christmas lasts longer than one day. We continue to sing
the songs and tell the stories of Christmas for two whole
weeks! Jesus’ birth is such good news that we want to tell
the whole world about it. During the Christmas season we
honour Mary, who trusted so much in God’s promise that
she became the mother of God. We also remember a
glorious star in the sky that was a sign to people
everywhere that God’s promise had been fulfilled. Even after
Christmas season ends, 40 days after Christmas Day on the
Feast of the Presentation, we remember how Mary and
Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem, where
Simeon and Anna rejoiced in the Lord’s coming.
A father and his 13 year old daughter are in
need of a ride to church from Lake Trail
Road. Every 2nd week would be great.
Please call Brian at 250-898-3488, if you can
help.
