Below are class descriptions for all non
SHJA classes.
USHJA Hunter Challenges
Outreach Hunter classes consist of two phases. Phase 1 tests a
rider’s ability to navigate a course consisting of eight obstacles
and two changes of directions. Phase II tests a rider’s ability
to best display his horse’s talents and style. This phase requires a horse and rider to navigate a course consisting of a
minimum of six obstacles and replicates skills required by a
rider on a hunt. Classes are offered at a variety of heights
ranging from 2’ to 3’3”. For more information see

USHJA Outreach Thoroughbred Hunter Challenge
Designated divisions will count towards the USHJA TB
Hunter Challenge. Horses must be ridden by junior or
amateur members of USHJA and be recorded with
USHJA to have points count towards year end awards.
Competitors must enter on entry form and supply their
USHJA membership number and horses recording number. Three entries are required to fill. For more information visit www.USHJA.org .

USHJA Outreach Medal Classes are held only at USHJA Outreach Competitions. Participation is open to all
Junior and Amateur riders who have not qualified for a
national medal at the 3’3” level or higher. Medal classes test a rider’s ability to navigate a course consisting
of a minimum of six obstacles and one change of direction. Classes are offered at a variety of levels ranging

amateur members of USHJA and be recorded with

Open to all junior members of SHJA. Riders must purchase a $5 armband at
each show (monies raised go directly to the juniors to purchase awards for the finals of
this class). Armbands are worn in all equitation classes from Crossrails Beginner Rider
up. Judges will assign each rider throughout the day a numerical score based on their
overall impression of each riders equitation.
Ties of scores will not be broken and riders will earn points based on their
results.
1st: 7 points
2nd:- 5 points
3rd: 4points
4th: - 3points
5th—2 points
6th—1 point
The top four riders for the year from each of the following jumping heights
Crossrails
Short /Long Stirrup
2’3”
2’6”
2’9”-3’
Will qualify for the SHJA Junior Challenge Finals. Riders will be placed on four teams,
each with representation from each fence height, to compete at the finals. Riders will
plan, school and ride without the assistance of a trainer. The teams members will assist
each other in preparing for and competing in the class. Everyone will show over the
same course at their respective heights. Additionally, each team will complete a horsemanship test. Numerical scores for each rider will be added together along with the
number of correct answers on the written test to comprise each teams final score.
