It’s hard to believe 2014 is almost over and once again it is time to share our rescue stories for the year. For some reason, while the basic rescue reasons were like other years (allergies, moving, illness, landlord, etc.), the stories seemed just a bit more unusual this year, but we’re up for the challenge! In 2014 while we saved 57 precious babies here in the Bay Area, we partnered with many other Persian Rescues around the country after getting calls from people who had to surrender their pets not in our area. Our largest save was a group of 8 found in a filthy hoarder house in San Francisco and confiscated by the police. They were terribly matted and dirty and had possibly never seen the light of day or been held. It has been along expensive journey with many of them needing to stay in foster homes to get the love and safety they needed to go on to their forever homes. Currently only two remain -- Friedrich and Teddy. But all are superstars – diamonds in the rough who have been utterly transformed into loving, happy beauties. To keep things going, we search all the time for outreach partners who can help with fostering, vet care, moral support and yes, money to pay the bills. Please remember many employers have match funding for charitable donations, so workplace giving is a great option. We also are on Amazon’s “Smile” program, so every time you make an Amazon purchase, if you indicate Smile and our Rescue, we get some funds. Every dime helps save a cat. 100 % of all donations go directly to the cats. While we are truly saddened that we lost some dear friends this year, we know that these folks were so dedicated to Rescue that it gave them great pleasure in their lives to leave a legacy of love for these precious pets, and helped to ensure that PHCR continues. One such person was our long-time volunteer Ann Mullen, who lost her battle with cancer at the end of 2013. A Big Thank You to… Other rescue organizations that share the load -- too many to name all, but special thanks to Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode, whose tireless partnership has been invaluable this year. Our fabulous volunteers who go above and beyond when we need them. California animal shelters, many of whom work diligently with us to find the best outcome for each and every Persian and Himalayan cat. The many veterinarians, including the Alamo Pet Hospital, Arguello Pet Hospital in San Francisco, Bollinger Canyon Animal Hospital in San Ramon, Cat Clinic in Mill Valley, and many others who give their skills, time and rescue discounts to help our cats stay healthy. … and especially YOU, who support the cats, and who adopt them and give them happy, loving homes! We at PHCR wish you all A Very Happy, Healthy, and Fantastic 2015!
