About Delhi
Delhi is a city that bridges two different worlds. Old Delhi,
once the capital of Islamic India, is a labyrinth of narrow
lanes lined with crumbling havelis and formidable
mosques. In contrast, the imperial city of New Delhi created
by the British Raj is composed of spacious, tree-lined
avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi has
been the seat of power for several rulers and many empires
for about a millennium. Many a times the city was built,
destroyed and then rebuilt here. Interestingly, a number of
Delhi's rulers played a dual role, first as destroyers and then
as creators.
Theme:
“Dual Burden of Malnutrition - A National Challenge”
The city's importance lies not just in its past glory as the seat
of empires and magnificent monuments, but also in the rich
and diverse cultures. No wonder chroniclers of Delhi culture from Chand Bardai and Amir Khusro to present days writers have never been at a loss for topics. In Delhi, you will
discover that the city is sprinkled with dazzling gems:
captivating ancient monuments, fascinating museums
and art galleries, architectural wonders, a vivacious
performing-arts scene, fabulous eating places and bustling
markets.
Delhi has been the political hub of India. Every political
activity in the country traces its roots here. This was true even
of the mythological era. The Pandavas of the Mahabharata
had their capital at Indraprastha, which is believed to have
been geographically located in today's Delhi.
Weather in Delhi
December in Delhi is a cold month. The temperature can
range from 20-25°C during the day to about 8.5°C during
the night. It is advisable to carry adequate woollens to keep
yourself warm!

To promote the cause of science by encouraging
the spirit of active pursuit of knowledge and
original scientific research particularly in the field
of Nutrition and Dietetics.

from the field of Nutrition and Dietetics.
India has undergone a striking demographic and
developmental change during the past few decades
with consequent changes in the nature and general
profile of nutrition related health problems. Obesity
and related non-communicable chronic diseases
are emerging as important health issues,
paradoxically co-existing with undernutrition. The
nation, thus, faces the double burden of malnutrition
with 10-20 percent of its population being overweight
or obese and almost 50 percent being
undernourished!

About IDA
National Executive Committee & Chapters
Keeping this in view, the theme of this year’s
conference has aptly been chosen as ‘Dual Burden
of Malnutrition – A National Challenge’.
Highlights of the Conference
Scientific Programme - Scientific programme will
include plenary lectures, oral presentations and
poster sessions on diverse topics relevant to the
conference theme. There will be two pre-conference
workshops conducted by highly competent resource
persons on the subject.
In 1962, a group of like-minded professionals in the
field of nutrition, dietetics and health resolved to form
a scientific body to highlight the role of these domains
in the prevention and treatment of diseases as well
as in the maintenance of health. Thus, the Indian
Dietetic Association was founded with Prof. Kalyan
Bagchi as the Secretar y and
Dr. C. Gopalan as the President. To
commemorate the foundation
day of IDA, January 10th is now
celebrated as the Dietetics Day
every year.
The Association has also launched
‘Specialized Refresher Modules in
Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics’ for its members on
distant learning basis.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) is elected
once in 4 years. Senior members from various
chapters are elected to the NEC which plays an
active role in running the organization. Currently, there
are 23 chapters of IDA in various parts of the country.
Each chapter has its own Local Executive Committee
(LEC) which runs scientific programmes and meetings
periodically.
Journal
IDA started its own scientific journal in 1963, coinciding
with the first Annual Convention of the Association. It is
titled the ‘Journal of the Indian Dietetic Association’.
