PHOTON International – The Solar Power Magazine
PHOTON International is the world’s leading solar
power magazine. If photovoltaics is your business,
then PHOTON International is the perfect way to reach
your customers. Now in its second decade, and with a
print run of 20,000 copies per month in 2015, PHOTON
International continues to cover the world of photovoltaics like no other publication. Our in-depth, independently researched articles are written by our own
editorial staff. The magazines are distributed at major
solar trade fairs and conferences worldwide – a total of
over 700 events per year.
Target audience
PHOTON International is the flagship publication
of the PHOTON Group, which has published monthly
PV magazines covering various markets since 1996.
While articles in the national editions are written primarily for end-consumers and installers, PHOTON International is the leading source of information for
decision makers in the global solar industry: from
managers at multinational solar companies to investors
and lenders; and from engineers and scientists involved
in R&D and the production of silicon, wafers, cells and
modules to utilities, project developers and operators of
large-scale solar power plants.
Each issue contains the most important news about:
•Markets: Highlighting the most significant developments and news in global solar markets, including
government incentives and utility-scale installations;
•Business: Surveying strategic moves and actions by
key international solar players and analyzing companies’ quarterly results; looking regularly into new production lines; and reporting on company strategies,
expansions, mergers and acquisitions;
•Finance & economics: Tracking module and inverter
prices, as well as solar stock performances, with our
own indexes and covering venture capital investment in
the sector and news related to international financial
markets;
•S cience & technology: Featuring the latest products and new technologies; providing the sector’s
most extensive global market surveys on production
equipment for wafer, cell and module manufacturing;
focusing on R&D related to manufacturing equipment,
materials and production processes; reporting on the
latest product tests (for example, inverters, modules
and connectors) by PHOTON Laboratory, which is the
only independent test lab owned and operated by a
publishing company in the solar sector;
•Service: Including the most comprehensive and regularly updated listing of international PV conferences
and trade fairs (updated daily on our website) and offering customers the chance to advertise job opportunities and to be listed in our comprehensive industry
registry, which is published in the print and electronic
editions of the magazine, as well as on our website.
One ad, multiple platforms
When you place an ad in PHOTON International, it will be
published in both the print edition and the digital
editions of the magazine. Find more information on
the next page. Your ad will also be published in the electronic editions of the magazine for tablets and PCs.
You receive all of this for the price of one ad in PHOTON
International.

PHOTON readers are always on the move. They want the latest news on PV wherever they are – and fast.
Approximately 10 days before PHOTON has arrived in their mailbox, every subscriber has immediate access to our online edition. The online editions
feature extra content, such as additional testing reports from our laboratory, detailed tables related to our market surveys and translated articles from the
national magazines, to name just a few. The digital versions include your advertisement, of course, and as an extra service for our customers, we embed a hyperlink to your
company’s website at no additional cost – ensuring readers are just one click away from learning more about your products and services firsthand. You can provide us with a
specific hyperlink that, for example, is connected with the product or service you are highlighting in your advertisement.
Special options: Multimedia in your ads
Advertisers now have the option of increasing the exposure rate of their digital ad by implementing multimedia taps on top of the ads. Be it a 3D object, an audio file, a movie or
several interactive click-fields, the new multimedia function enables you to enhance the way readers interact with your ad and can meaningfully increase reader response rates. Our sales
team will be happy to assist you in bringing
your ad to life.

Position: fixed or rotating
If you purchase a fixed position for your ad, then that’s that, the ad space is yours alone for the duration of the contract.
If you buy a rotating position, available for nearly half the price of the fixed position, another one or two ad customer/s can
buy in to that space. Ads placed in a given rotating position will be shuffled each time the webpage is reloaded.
You can also purchase advertising space in a way that your ads only appear to customers viewing our website from certain
countries of regions or in a certain language. To meet your specific goals, a detailed targeted advertising plan, including
various cost calculations, is available upon request.

General terms and conditions for advertisements and supplements
1. According to the following general terms and conditions, an »advertising order« is understood as a contract
to publish one or more advertisements by a particular
party in one of the publisher’s publications with the intention of being circulated.
2. Orders for advertisements or external supplements,
which are only to be published in a predesignated
amount, in a predesignated issue and in a predesignated
area within a publication, must be received in a timely
manner by the publisher so that the publisher can inform the client prior to the reservation deadline whether
the order cannot be completed according to the above
criteria.
3. The client is responsible for the timely delivery of suitable, flawless documents or supplements. The contract
becomes legally binding after the client has received an
official order confirmation from the publisher and the order confirmation is not disputed within 10 (ten) working
days after the date of issue, or after the client sends its
ad file to the publisher for insertion (whichever comes
first). In the event of cancellation of an advertisement
order, the publisher will charge the client the full price of
the advertisement as a cancellation fee.
4. Advertisements that are not readily recognizable as
such because of their design will be clearly marked »Advertisement« by the publisher.
5. The publisher, based on justifiable and equal principles, has
the right to refuse an advertisement order if that advertisement’s content, source or technical form is illegal or infringes
upon official regulations, or if the publisher feels the publication of the advertisement is unacceptable. This also holds true
for orders received by agencies or company representatives.
Supplement orders are only completed after the publisher receives and approves an exact sample copy of the supplement.
Supplements that give readers the impression that they are
an integral part of the publication as a result of their format or
presentation, or supplements that contain additional external
advertisements, will not be accepted.
6. In the event that a printed advertisement is partially or totally unreadable, incorrect or incomplete, the client has the
right to demand a reduction in price or the substitution of a
corrected advertisement in a later issue of the publication,
but such claims can only be made in the event the purpose
of the advertisement is negatively affected. If the publisher
fails to reduce the cost of the advertisement within a given
period of time that is acceptable, or if the substitute advertisement is again incorrect, the client has the right to a further reduction in price or a change of the contract. Claims for
damages regarding positive infringement on requirements,
default on the contract or other unacceptable actions cannot
be made, even if an order is placed by telephone. Claims for
damages as the result of an order’s incompletion and other
delays are limited to compensation for predictable damages
and the total price of the advertisement or supplement.
1/2
This does not refer to intentional and gross negligence on
the part of the publisher, its legal representatives and its
employees. The publisher’s responsibility for damages as a
result of the absence of guaranteed features remains unaffected. Furthermore, the publisher is not responsible in commercial business connections for gross negligence on the
part of employees who are not executive staff. In all other
cases toward salespersons, the responsibility for gross
negligence and compensation will be limited to foreseeable
damages, thus not exceeding the cost of the advertisement
in question. Apart from non-obvious mistakes, complaints
must be registered 2 weeks after arrival of the invoice and
sample.
7. In the event that the client doesn’t pay in advance, the
invoice will be sent immediately, but, if possible, 14 days
after publication of the advertisement. Invoices are to be
paid without delay and any deductions – that is, unless the
client and the publisher have already agreed in writing to a
different payment period.
8. The contract is considered fully performed by the publisher once the magazine has been released online in the
myPHOTON section (www.photon.info g myPHOTON).
In the event of a delay of payment or moratorium, interest
and collection costs will be added to the invoice. The publisher can demand a payment of €5 for expenses with every
reminder. In the event of a delay in payment, the publisher
can refuse fulfillment of open orders for which prepayment

has not been received prior to the advertising deadline of the
corresponding issue. In the event of nonpayment, the publisher will charge the client the full price of the advertisement
as a compensation for loss.
If the publisher has justified doubts as to whether a client
can pay an invoice, the publisher has the right, without consideration of an originally agreed term of payment and even
during an advertisement’s runtime, to request a credit card for
payment. The publisher has the right to charge the credit card
upon the advertising deadline and the advertising deadlines
of all future ads for which prepayment is delayed.
Furthermore, the publisher has the right to close the online access to myPHOTON for the people employed at the customer’s
company until payment has been received.
12. Layout sketches will not be returned.
13. Remuneration for an intermediary will only occur if the
third party has directed a new client to the publisher, and
only if expressly agreed upon by the publisher at the time
of the contract’s award. New clients are defined as clients
seeking to advertise that have no prior contact with the publisher. A client will not be considered »new« if that client has
already received advertising rates or other information from
the publisher. The limit for remuneration of intermediaries is
15% of the cost of the advertisement or supplement.
10. Upon request, the publisher will deliver a sample of the
advertisement with the invoice. Depending on the type and
size of the order, this sample may consist of only advertisement segments, single pages or a complete issue.
14. Place of payment is Aachen, Germany. Aachen is the
area of jurisdiction for business dealings with traders, legal
representatives of public law and public assets. As long as
PHOTON Publishing GmbH’s demands cannot be enforced in
a dunning procedure, the place of legal venue for nontraders/sales personnel is the customer’s place of residence. If
the customer’s home or typical place of residence, including
nontraders/sales personnel, is unknown at the time of the
lawsuit, or if the customer moves his/her home or place of
residence outside the area of legal jurisdiction following
the conclusion of the contract, Aachen will automatically
become the agreed legal venue. German law is applicable.
11. The client is responsible for any costs accrued during
the preparation of reproductions and paper originals requested by the client or for major changes to the originally
»agreed upon« design.
15. In the event that one or more of the paragraphs in this
general terms and conditions is or are made null and void,
it will not affect the validity of the remaining paragraphs.

void, are to be replaced with a new regulation that comes
as close as possible to fulfilling the original commercial
purpose.
16. Insofar as the ordering party is obligated under statutory regulations to withhold a tax or other dues from the
invoiced amount and to pay them, he undertakes vis-à-vis
the publishing house, upon placing of the order, to promptly
fulfill the fiscal duties to withhold and pay the taxes or dues
in accordance with the legal requirements. The ordering
party also undertakes to provide, unprompted and within
two weeks of payment of the invoice amount, the publishing
house with proof of payment of the withheld tax amount by
means of a copy of the voucher for payment. If the ordering
party fails to meet his obligation in spite of the publishing
house’s request that he do so, the publishing house is entitled to withdraw from or terminate the contract concluded
with the ordering party. Further, the publishing house is
entitled to make the appearance of further advertisements
dependent on the provision of the proof.
