Get your automotive career on the road by completing this course in Automotive Mechanical and it could lead to an
entry-level role as an apprentice vehicle mechanic, auto electrician or heavy vehicle mechanic. This course is
available to anyone who is currently in, or planning to enter, the Automotive Industry.
The qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of tasks related to familiarisation and
inspection of mechanical and electrical components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles. It provides
individuals with an introduction to the automotive industry by providing basic skills and preparing participants in
undertaking work in the broader automotive industry. It has applications and relevance to related areas such as
Heavy Auto/Trucking (Commercial Vehicle) fields.

The qualification is particularly applicable as an entry-level pathway to employment, and is suitable as an

Successful completion of this course can lead into an apprenticeship within Automotive Mechanical, and/or a
career as an Automotive Mechanic, Automotive Electrician, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Diesel Fitting and Engine
Reconditioning.

Start 02 March 2015: Part-time over 9 weeks on campus attending Monday - Wednesday 8am-5pm and up to 4
weeks of work experience.
Participants are strongly encouraged to undertake work experience as part of this program. Assistance may be
provided in this regard.

Entry requirements
The minimum age requirement is 15 years. Ideally participants should possess a pass in Maths, English and
Science at a year 10 level, however achievements in other subject areas and work experience is often sufficent for
success in this program. Language, literacy and numeracy assistance is available.
A Student Administration Charge of $33.00 is applicable to all enrolments, paid once per calendar year
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognises your existing experience gained through life or work for which
you may not have obtained a formal qualification. We will work with you to identify your existing skills and
knowledge and assess if you can then achieve a full or part qualification. This also helps to avoid unnecessary
duplication of training.
