The Joseph E. and Minnie Wagman Centre Newsletter Issue #195 January 2015 PROGRAMMES OF SPECIAL INTEREST AT A GLANCE Day Date Time Programme Staff Monday Friday January 26 January 9 and 23 7:00 p.m. 11:15 a.m. Brainteasers Drum Circle Helen Fern Monday January 12 and 26 1:30 p.m. Stress Break Fern 1:30 p.m. Wellness Lecture Judy Wednesday January 21 Fit Tip Create S.M.A.R.T. Health Goals for the New Year Most of us have made a promise to achieve some kind of health or fitness-related goal and many of us quit a few months later because they don’t see results. Sometimes, when our goals are too vague, unplanned or unrealistic, we often fail. Making a commitment to get fit is the first step to a healthier life and goals help measure progress. If you want long-term success, be clear about what you want to accomplish. Set a S.M.A.R.T. goal. This type of goal is one that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound . A S.M.A.R.T. goal clarifies exactly what is expected. For example, a S.M.A.R.T. goal would be, "I will walk for 10 minutes every day for one week." or "I will eat a piece of fruit at breakfast 3 days this week." Wellness Lecture Join us on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., in the Assembly Room at the Wagman Centre for our Wellness Workshop. Their particular unique vision and extraordinary genius contributed immensely to pushing the boundaries and breaking the conventions of their times. Some created a movement; some created a revolution; their art and their lives changed the history of art forever. Back by popular demand, art critic and educator Oznat Lippa takes us on a journey of discovery across widely contrasting artistic contributions, with a study of Pablo Picasso, Henry Matisse, Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer and Gustav Klimt. In this course we take you on an adventure through time, with the great explorers who discovered the beauty of our world. You will learn from their private journals, how it was to be the first woman to climb the highest peaks in Canada, or cross the Atlantic Ocean in a kayak in 1924! We will take you to places few others have been, among the great mountains of the Himalayas, the Andes and the rugged peaks of Western Canada, to the deepest caves in the world and across the great oceans.
