Independent Student Standard Verification Worksheet
2014-2015 Standard Verification Worksheet Independent Student Your 2014-2015 FAFSA was selected for review in a process called verification. The law says that before awarding federal student aid, we may ask you to confirm the information you reported on your FAFSA. To verify that you provided correct information, the Office of Financial Assistance (OFA) will compare your FAFSA with the information on this worksheet and with any other required documents. If there are differences, the OFA will make the necessary corrections to your FAFSA. Normal verification processing time is between 3-5 business days from the date the last document is received. If corrections are made to your FAFSA you will be notified of those changes upon completion of verification to your Cardinal Mail account. If your awards changed due to the corrections, you may view your new award package online through BannerWeb. A. Tax Return Filers—Important Note: If either or your spouse (if married) filed or will file an Amended 2013 Tax Return 1040X, contact the Office of Financial Assistance (OFA) before completing this section. Complete this section if you, the student and your spouse (if married), filed or will file a 2013 federal income tax return with the IRS. The best way to report income on the FAFSA is by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) that is part of FAFSA at FAFSA.ed.gov. In most cases, for electronic filers, 2013 IRS income tax information for the IRS DRT is available within 2-3 weeks after the electronic income tax return has been accepted by the IRS with no issues. For filers of the 2013 paper IRS income tax returns, the information is generally available for the IRS DRT within 8-11 weeks after the paper return has been received by the IRS with no issues. Please contact the OFA if more information is needed about using the IRS DRT. If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool you may choose to log back into the FAFSA to use the tool or you can opt to submit your 2013 Tax Return Transcript for the OFA to review. (Please refer to our Verification Checklist for information on how to obtain a Tax Return Transcript.) Check the box that applies: Check here if a signed copy of the student’s (and if married, spouse’s) 2013 IRS Tax Return Transcript is attached to this worksheet. Check here if you have already used the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) and did not alter or change any information after the transfer was complete. Check here if you choose to log back into the 2014-2015 FAFSA to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to transfer your 2013 IRS income information. (Please note that if you use the IRS DRT it could take up to 3-5 business days for us to upload the new FAFSA record with the new information.) Please be aware that not everyone is eligible to use the IRS DRT. When attempting to process the IRS DRT information, FAFSA will notify you if you are or are not eligible to use the tool and if it was successful. If you are ineligible to use or choose not to use the IRS DRT, then you must submit a copy of your and your spouses (if married) 2013 Tax Return Transcript from the IRS. In extenuating circumstances, the processor may request a copy of your 2013 Tax Return Transcript even if you have used the DRT. If needed, the processor will contact you. 2.
