NEW PRAYER GROUP
A new prayer group is being formed here at
FUMC. Here is how it will work. At the same time and
day once a week, each member of the group will stop what
he or she is doing and pray for the particular concern(s)
that have been provided to the group, via email (or some other method if
you do not have email), several days prior to the prayer day. We will pray
as a group but just not physically present with each other. If you are
interested, there will be a meeting at church on Sunday, January 25th, at
5:00 p.m. If you are interested but cannot attend the initial meeting, please
let Pastor Alice know of your interest. Remember, the Power of Prayer!!!
VEGETABLE BEEF SOUP
Saturday, January 17th
Cost: $8 per quart
Ready for pick-up at 11:30 a.m.
GOD’S PRESCRIPTION FOR YOUR HEALTH
Starting this Sunday, Pastor Alice will be preaching a
sermon series to encourage us to be healthy physically,
socially, mentally, and spiritually based on sound teaching
from the Bible. God cares about us; body, mind and soul.
This week we will learn what God has to say about our
bodies.
MISSION PROJECT
This year the Mission Committee, with the help
of our church members, will be assisting The Laurens
County Memorial Home with items that the residents are
limited in obtaining because of their restricted budget.
Each month we will be collecting a different item
and delivering them to the Memorial Home. We will be
the helping hands of God.
This month we will be collecting small packs of cheese crackers, or
nekot crackers, or any others that you will like to donate.
Please join the Mission Committee in being a part of our efforts to
help the residents of The Laurens County Memorial Home.
Thank you,
Donna Whitlock
Mission Committee Chairman
UMYF SUPPERS
We are in need of individuals or groups to help with UMYF
supper on Sunday evenings. If you would like to help,
please sign-up on the bulletin board outside the Church
Office.
WALK TO EMMAUS
Time is fast approaching for the Men and
Women’s Spring “Walk to Emmaus.” The date for
the Men’s Walk is March 5th – 8th and the date for the
Women’s Walk is March 12th – 15th.
What exactly is the “WALK TO EMMAUS”? The Walk to Emmaus
is a weekend of Spiritual renewal to strengthen Church leaders through a
Christ led Pilgrimage. The Emmaus experience can be the occasion for
commitments to new life directions. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
If you, or someone you know, might be interested in attending the
Spring Walk, please contact the church office, Alice or anyone who has
attended a Walk to Emmaus weekend. Someone will then contact you to
better explain the Emmaus experience and answer any questions you might
have. Should you decide to attend, someone will sponsor you on the Walk
and make the necessary arrangements to ensure that your weekend is one of
the most rewarding Spirit filled and fun filled events that you will remember
for the rest of your life.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
At First United Methodist Church

BIBLE VERSE FOR JANUARY
Do you not know that your bodies
are temples of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own; you were bought at a price.
Therefore, honor God with your bodies.

GETTING TO KNOW
ED & LORI WESTON
Talk about jumping in with both feet first! Since Ed and
Lori first began visiting the church several months ago, they have
been actively involved in several mission projects including
Chicken Stew and the Football Sandwich Ministry. They have
joined a Sunday school and attend worship, both Traditional and
Contemporary. They joined the church the first Sunday in January
of 2015.
Originally from Ft. Dix, NJ, Lori is an Army Brat and has
travelled the world. She has run in several marathons and
Triathlons. She currently is an instructor at the Y leading Spinning
classes as well as working in the After School program. She enjoys
crocheting and working in the community.
Ed is a retired Civil Servant and a Navy veteran, serving on
active duty for 6 years. He too has participated in Marathons
including the Boston marathon. He enjoys reading and Bee
Keeping. They have been married for 15 years and have 3 dogs
and a cat. We welcome them to First and the help they provide in
the Mission programs.
