Contents Minneapolis Ranked Nation’s Best Park System The Park Board was created by the Minnesota legislature and ratified by Minneapolis voters in April 1883. The Minneapolis Park System is rated #1 in America by The Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore® index, finishing first among the 50 largest U.S. cities. Minneapolis parks scored well on all rating factors, with especially high marks for park system investment and park accessibility – with 94 percent of residents living within ½-mile from a park or trail. ParkScore ratings are based equally on three factors: park access (percent of residents within one-half mile of a park); park size (city size and percent of city area dedicated to parks); and services and investment (number of playgrounds and per capita park spending).
