the Chinese Government Scholarship Program

The duration of the scholarship is the same as the duration of studies which is
confirmed when the students enter our university. There is no extension.
International students without any prior knowledge of the Chinese
language can learn Chinese for one year in the School of International
Education at Tianjin University.
Details and standards of the scholarship program
1. Exempt from other fees such as registration, tuition, fee for laboratory
experiment, internship placements, basic learning materials and on campus
accommodation;
Accommodation: Master’s: double-bed room;PhD: one-bed room
2. Living allowance and one-off settlement subsidy:
(1) Standard of Living allowance: (RMB)
Master’s: 1,700 RMB/month; PhD: 2,000 RMB/month;
(2)The new student will receive 1,500RMB as a one-off settlement subsidy.
3. Outpatient medical service and comprehensive medical insurance for
students as required under the Chinese Government Scholarship Program.
Choice of specialty
Tianjin University offers 118 Master programs and 84 PhD programs. Students
must choose their specialty carefully as students are not permitted to transfer
to another specialty once they have accepted their place. Please refer to the

Qualification for the applicants
1. Any nationality other than Chinese nationals. Applicants must be in good
health;
2. Education and age requirements:
For Master’s applicants: have graduated with a Bachelor degree and be
under the age of 35 (born after 1980);
For PhD applicants: have graduated with a Master degree, and be under the
age of 40 (born after 1975).
Application materials
The applicants must fill in and submit two copies of each of the following
application materials: (both duplicated)
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship Program
(filled in by typing in Chinese or English, with the photo. The original and a
copy must be submitted ;)
Applicants shall fill in and print the application form after submitting it online.
The CSC Online Application System for Study in China is available at
http://laihua.csc.edu.cn/inscholarship/jsp/student/StudentLogin.jsp.
Our agency number is 10056.
2. The notarized certificate of the highest diploma. If the applicant is
employed a proof of employment is to be submitted with the application.
Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with
notarized translations in Chinese or English, the original and a copy must be
submitted;
3. The notarized copy of the Academic Transcripts: Transcripts in
languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized
translations in Chinese or English.
4. A study or research plan not less than 800 words in English or Chinese.
All applicants must submit a study or research plan for the study period in
China.

5. Two recommendation letters: Applicants who apply for Master’s need to
submit two recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors
or associate professors. Applicants who apply for the PhD need to submit two
recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors;

6. Applicants for art studies are requested to submit two sketches of the
applicants’ own works.
7. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy
should be kept by the applicant). The medical examinations must cover all the
items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or
those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the
hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the
appropriate time to have the medical examination as the medical results have
a 6-months validity.

8. Photocopy of passport.
9. Applicants who are not required to study Chinese have to submit us the
HSK certificate. A minimum requirement of HSK4 (Score 180 or above) or
HSK5 (Score 180 or above liberal arts) certificate.
10. Applicants should submit a self-introduction CD. The video must be
recorded in Chinese or English and be less than 5 minutes in duration.
The applicants need to mail all the above application materials to:
Admission Office, School of International Education, Tianjin University.
Application materials will not be returned regardless of the outcome of
the application.
The deadline for Application: March 13, 2015
Both the online application and all the application documents should be
submitted before March 13, 2015.

1) The application will not be processed if it is inconsistent with the
recruitment requirements or the materials are incomplete.
2) We will view all the application material, and admission is based on merit.
3) We will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for
Study in China (Jw201) to the successful applicants.

Master Program in Software Engineering
The master program is designed to cultivate internationalized and advanced software
engineering talents with a profound understanding of advanced and practical software
development methods techniques, and tools related to each phrase of software development
cycles and to equip students with comprehensive knowledge related to information
technology and expertise in certain specialty.
The duration of full time graduate study is typically 2 years, maximum 5 years. All courses
should be finished within 1 year and software engineering practice should be no less than 1
year.
The specialty of this Software Engineer program is Big Data.

Introduction to the Objectives of main courses
 Fundamentals of Engineering Mathematics
- To have the knowledge of the basic theory of matrix and numerical calculation, the basic
methods of numerical calculation;

- Understand how computer systems are organized;
- Be conversant with measures of computer performance and methods for increasing

 Advanced Data Mining, Data Fusion and its Applications
- Learn about the principles of Data Mining and Data Fusion and its applications in the
data-rich areas.
 Data & Information Visualization
- Learn the background knowledge of data & information visualization technologies in the
context of visual data mining;
- Learn the necessary knowledge of representing and navigating large information spaces;
- Learn the state-of-art visual tools, methods and metaphors;
- Learn how to critique and evaluate the different visualization approaches;
- Learn how to develop new and innovative visualizations to support information

2. Possess the Bachelor degrees related to Computer Science or Software Engineering and

3. Possess practical programming skills and master certain programming languages;
4. Have a good command of English: shall be able to communicate and read and write
scientific thesis in English.

Registration Fee: CNY 420 (approximately USD 67).
Tuition Fee: CNY30, 000/year (approximately USD4821/year).
Accommodation: CNY 18, 000/year (approximately USD2893/year).
Medical Insurance Fee: Foreign students who enter the universities of China must buy
the medical insurance offered by China Ping’ an Insurance Company at the same time.
The insurance duration is for at least six months and 400RMB for each person.
5. Other fees such as traveling fee, learning materials fee, etc should be paid by students
themselves.
