Satspeed GPS speed measurement
Satspeed
GPS speed measurement
The RDS Satspeed is the modern choice for accurate
true ground speed measurement
The RDS Satspeed is a
non-contacting signal input
interface designed for the
accurate measurement of
true ground speed based
on vehicle movement.
·
Highly accurate speed over ground
measurement, calculated from up to 12
satellites.
·
Signal unaffected by weather or surface.
·
Not influenced by pitch or yaw of vehicle.
·
Not influenced by moving crops.
·
Simple ‘plug and play’ installation.
·
Sensor alignment not critical.
·
Compact interface (GPS not included).
·
Connects to any DGPS receiver.
Satspeed
The RDS Satspeed converts GPS data to a radar
compatible speed pulse.
The Satspeed interface will accept a standard
NMEA GGA and VTG message from a GPS receiver
and will convert this message to a pulse output
proportional to forward speed. the pulse output is
compatible with the output of most industry
standard radar speed sensors.
The RS232 output from a GPS receiver can be
shared between the Satspeed interface and any
other system using the GPS (eg. guidance system).
Note the GPS receiver is not supplied, but the Satspeed
interface can connect to any GPS receiver (pre-installed
or new) that outputs NMEA messages via serial RS232
port.
Advantages:
·
True ‘speed over ground’ calculated from up to 12
GPS satellites.
·
Immediate ground speed signal matches vehicle
movement.
·
Precise signal unaffected by weather or surface.
·
Sensor and cabling installed away from moving
parts and out of vulnerable areas.
·
Not influenced by wheel slip, wheels size, tyre
pressures or vehicle load.
·
Not influenced by pitch or yaw of vehicle.
·
Not influenced by moving crops.
·
Sensor positioning/alignement not critical
·
Operates with any GPS receiver that outputs NMEA
messages via serial RS232 port
·
Does not need differential correction but accuracy
is directly related to GPS receiver.
·
Highly accurate performance equivalent to radar.
Errors and omissions excepted. Technical details are subject to change. ref: ret/satsp/rev 1.01
Limitations:
Specifications:
Power Supply: 10 - 30V dc
Output: npn open collector pulse
35.6004Hz/km/hr = 128.16 pulses per
metre = 57.42 Hz/mile/hr
·
Not suitable for speeds <1.0 km/hr
·
Not suitable for use in tunnels or heavily shaded
areas.
