For many companies, the economic crisis was accompanied by a barrage of new security challenges, risks, threats and actual incidents which, in turn, negatively impacted operations, facilities, employees, customers, and reputations. Wells Fargo Bank, classified as a “systemically important financial institution” and part of the U.S. critical infrastructure, experienced several publicly visible incidents and investigations which challenged its entire corporate security organization. They worked through the largest financial institution organizational integration in history, with the acquisition of Wachovia, and doubled its size and scope of responsibilities to over 10K locations and 280K employees worldwide. With its new size came an increase in workplace violence incidents, burglaries, robberies, and -how can we forget -the ‘Occupy” protests and the accompanying demonstrations and executive threats. The security organization and its collaborative business partners not only survived these challenges, but they thrived! So how did they do it? We will hear from Michael Bacon as he discusses best practices in developing a sustainable security organization that is capable of protecting a company’s assets, and people while responding to changing business needs and threat environments. He will discuss the people, processes, and procedures required to achieve “operational excellence and resiliency” in security. Michael recently departed Wells Fargo after a fourteen year career and started Rezolvrizk, a risk management resource firm focused on assisting companies in resolving their security and investigative risks. At Wells Fargo, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Security Officer for the Corporate Security and Internal Investigation programs. The programs consisted of ten divisions* supported by r 500+ professionals whose mission was to mitigate risk and loss associated with physical security incidents and team member misconduct matters. *Corporate Investigations, Internal Fraud Detection, Enterprise Services, Computer Forensics, Physical Security, Security Project Management, Security Equipment Services, Executive Protection, Uniformed Services, and two 24/7 Security Response Centers. Prior to Wells Fargo, he served in leadership positions for 13 years at Bank of America. He is an active member of ASIS, HTCIA, ISSA, and the IIA. He maintains certification as a Certified Protection Professional, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and a Senior Professional in Human Resources. He has a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Texas / Arlington and an Executive Master’s Degree in General Business Administration from the University of Maryland. SA Joseph Malhoit Active shooter situations are possible wherever people gather: school, work, places of worship, sporting events, etc. The Minneapolis FBI has developed an hour-long presentation specifically addressing business environments. During this presentation, SA Joseph Malhoit will cover both what to do in an active shooter situation to increase the probability of survival and how to identify potential pre-event indicators of a person preparing to embark on a mass violence event. He will also look at past mass violence events and the research and statistics related to active shooters. Special Agent Joseph Malhoit earned a BS in Pastoral Studies from North Central University and a MA in Psychology from St. Mary’s University. SA Malhoit has been an FBI Agent for 17 years, and was previously assigned to White Collar Crime, Domestic Terrorism and Violent Crime with an emphasis on Child Prostitution. For the past year, SA Malhoit has been the Training Coordinator for the Minneapolis FBI Office. During his FBI career, SA Malhoit has been a Crisis Negotiator, the Employee Assistance Coordinator, a Relief Supervisor and the Crimes Against Children Coordinator.
