SH KNOWLEDGE BOWL: Senior High Knowledge Bowl. Mon., Jan 26 meet at MCC, 7:00. Bus will leave at at 6:00 with a stop at Expressway for food. 13. Earth Y.E.S. class, Solar Light Team, is looking for clear jars w/lids. If you have any to donate to us, that would be very helpful. Please leave the jars with Mr. Merrick. Thank you. We are decorating solar light jars for Valentine’s Day. You can buy one for your loved one and we can decorate it and put names down. Price will be $6-$10. 14. One Act Play – AM rehearsals in Helgeson’s room, PM on stage Fri., 1/23 – 3:30-5:00 Sat., 1/24 – 9-12 (full dress) Mon., 1/26 Public Performance at 7 PM (be here at 4:00) Tues., 1/27 3:30-5 Wed., 1/28 3:30-5 Thur., 1/29 3:30-5 Fri., 1/30 School Performance 2:25 (cast crew eat A lunch) Sat., 1/31 Pipestone Subsections; Bus at 6 a.m. 15. Yearbook continues to meet on Wednesdays after school. 16. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY If you’d like to be considered for induction to the National Honor Society, please pick up a form from the HS office. To be considered for NHS you must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and be involved in school and community activities. It takes some time to get all of the required signatures, please start early. Deadline to have the forms in to the HS office is Fri., 1/23. If you filled out a form last year, you may just update it for this year. Those forms are available at the HS office. If you are already a NHS members, please pick up your form to update it. 17. Junior High Musical - First practice and read through on Monday, January 26th. We will look at set construction and costumes. PICK UP BOOKS TODAY. Parts are still in progress but all should read the play. There is still room for a few more pirates! We will meet in the Choir room at 3:30 until 4:30 to read through the play. 18. Students grades 7-12 are invited to watch the theater competition piece The Insanity of Mary Girard on Fri., Jan. 30, at 2:25. This play features a woman who has been placed in a mental asylum against her will, and the "furies" (thoughts) that go through her mind and try to push her into madness. This play uses adult language and themes to discuss the difficult topic of severe mental illness and the abuse of the mental health system in the 18th century. While attitudes have improved toward mental illness in recent years, we still have so far to go. If you are uncomfortable with these adult themes, please see Mr. Richards to be put into study hall during that time. 19. This is Snow Week. The theme is Fire & Ice. Dance for grades 9-12 will be Saturday 1/24 from 9 pm until midnight. See posters in hallways for dress up days and activities. If you would like to bring a guest to the dance who doesn't attend school here, please pick up a guest form in the office and have it filled out and returned BY FRIDAY 1/23. 20. SNOW WEEK EVENTS & ACTIVITIES Fri., 1/23 – America Day 2:30-3:05 -- Singing Bee -- auditorium Sat., 1/24 – Snow Dance, 9:00 PM. 21. Junior High Solo/Ensemble Contest on Fri., 1/23, 3:00-6:00 PM. Please dismiss all 7th & 8th gr. band students at 2:45 on Fri. to prepare for the Solo/Ensemble Festival. There will be no after school Open Library on Fri., 1/23 due to the JH Solo/Ensemble contest. 23. Student council members should meet at 7:30 in the auditorium on Friday to decorate. 24. Driver’s Education begins on Tues., 2/10 with parents. Class is 7:00-9:00 PM. You must be at least 14 years old by Feb. 10 in order to take the class. Cost of the classroom portion of Drivers’ Education is $50. Cost of the behind-the-wheel portion of Drivers’ Education is $175. After the first class, transportation to and from class will be provided. There will be a short meeting for all girls 7-12 interested in participating in softball this spring. The meeting is Monday, Jan. 26 at the beginning of GST in Mr. Theisen's room.
