WELCOME TO SHEPHERD OF THE VALLEY!
Thank you for choosing to worship with us today. Our desire is to make
your worship experience a positive one. Check out our information booth, in
the skylight area. Take home a church calendar of events or any of the
other items you may find helpful to you. Please make yourself at home.
This is God’s house and a home to all who worship here.
SATURDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY - in the library following the 5:00 pm service ―The Great Deceiver": Is Satan a real being, or is he just an outdated representation of
evil? The Bible speaks of him as a rebel angel misleading people to go against God. Recent
surveys suggest a majority of Christians in the United Sates don't believe that he really
exists. In this four session study Rev. Mike Newman explores what the Bible has to say, as
well as individuals who have experienced The Great Deceiver's guile. Subway sandwiches
and snacks will be available.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY Please join us in the Family Life Center during the Adult
Bible Study hour at 9:15 am. for a special presentation by Rusty Doner as he
reflects on his Mission Trip to Honduras - Planting the Seed. We will also have a
short presentation from the Gideons.
SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH: 9:15-10:15 a.m. each
week. For class locations, stop by room across from church office (1st classroom
inside east door).
TODAY 6TH GRADE YOUTH have completed their communion training. With
parent approval, they will be welcomed to the Lord’s Supper today at 10:30 a.m.
and in coming weeks. May this strengthening of faith move you into further service
in God’s Kingdom!
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS for children & youth…and adults. It’s never too late to
start! Classes start at 6:30 p.m. Need more information…talk with Marilyn at
225-1623 Ext 21 or Marilyn@sotv-wdm.org.
PLAY THE Y. I. CHALLENGE! Help us win $1,000 for our youth mission trip next
summer! The 2015 Young Investors Challenge kicks off today, January 25 for
three weeks: January 25 through February 14. The Y.I. Challenge is a 10 question
online quiz on the basics of good stewardship and finances. The congregation with
the highest score (based upon a combination of correct answers and percentage of
participation) will win $1,000 for their youth. Starting January 25 go to
lcefuppermidwest.org/yichallenge. Pick up a flyer from the ushers.
HOW DID THE EARLY CHURCH DEAL WITH GOD'S WORD AND
THEIR LIFE'S CIRCUMSTANCES? How did the teachings that we have in our
church today develop and come to be? Let's take a look at our early church history
Sundays in February with Pastor Dahlke.

link: http://vols.pt/RQkdMW Thank you for your support with this fundraiser and wonderful
community event! Supplemental funds are provided by Two Rivers County Chapter #31170 of
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
STEWARDSHIP CORNER In every church, there are people who continually rise to the
occasion to get the work done. Although God calls each of us to follow and serve Him,
many of us are much more concerned about our own lives and goals than assisting in the
Lord’s work. If we focus on “I, me, mine, and myself,” we take care of “number one” to
the exclusion of helping and serving. In our prayers, we should be asking God to grant
us hearts that want to serve, and we should be asking Him, “What do You want to
achieve through me today?”
SAVE THE DATE! Camp Okoboji will be 75 years old this year. The Walther League
was instrumental in buying the camp, so… A WALTHER LEAGUE REUNION will be
held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Camp Okoboji, where it all began. More details will
be shared in the coming months. Plan now to attend. Your ideas are welcome—contact
Janet Askew, Adair (641-740-0200) or Lois Hanusa, Council Bluffs (712-325-4378).
