St. Mary School Escondido, CA 1/23/2015 Volume 19, Issue 1 Our SMS Newsletter Principals Corner Dear St. Mary School Families, Registration for the 2015-2016 S/Y officially begins on Sunday, January 25th. You may register online through the website. Once registered, you will be contacted by our Registrar, Lisa Huelskamp. Please note that in an attempt to keep pace with other Catholic Schools in the area, our registration fees have increased slightly. As in years past, the registration amount will increase in increments each month, so it behooves families to register early. Also, please keep in mind our referral program. Families who refer another family to our school will receive $100 off of their registration if the new family enrolls. Lastly, please see the letter below from John Galvan, the Director of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of San Diego, regarding the new Bishop Flores Scholars Tuition Assistance Program. I hope to see you at our Open House on Sunday, January 25th. Regards, Mrs. Gilbert January 23, 2015 Dear Catholic School Parents, The Diocese of San Diego has a rich tradition of educating the next generation of Catholics in our local parishes and schools. We are the largest private school system encompassing 48 schools in two counties, San Diego and Imperial, and impacting the lives of approximately 17,000 children in our elementary and high schools. The potential for growing our impact is unparalleled in this region, and that is why supporting Catholic education is vital to building the future of our local Church. Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, the diocese is very pleased to announce that it will be launching the Bishop Flores Scholars Tuition Assistance Program to provide K-12 tuition assistance totaling $1,000,000.00 for children in need to attend Catholic schools in the Diocese of San Diego. We believe that Catholic education should be both affordable and accessible to every child and family who desires it regardless of their background, neighborhood, family income, or culture. Our mission is to develop sustainable financial partnerships with low and middle-income families who are invested in Catholic education. These partnerships are critical to the success of our Catholic schools, and without them, we will not be viable. In addition to providing a quality Catholic education for San Diego and Imperial County children, our schools provide a character formation education where children are instilled with Catholic values, so that one-day they may contribute to society as globally aware and productive citizens. In honor of Catholic Schools Week, families may apply for the Bishop Flores Scholars Tuition Assistance Program beginning January 23, 2015. For information on eligibility, deadlines, applicant qualifications, award distributions, costs, recipient responsibilities and other facts, please visit the Bishop Flores Scholars Tuition Assistance Program website at http:// www.bishopfloresscholars.org and talk to your local school’s administrators. Thank you in advance for your interest and participation in the Bishop Flores Scholars Tuition Assistance Program. You are directly supporting Bishop Flores’ vision for the total mission of our schools: “Not only will these children become the Church of tomorrow, but they will also fill the most important roles in leadership and ministry as the Church reaches out to the world.” In Christ, John Galvan Office for Schools, Director Reminders Catholic Schools Week is this week- please see below for more details on each day! Catholic schools all across our country including our own St. Mary School will have a week full of activities to celebrate and honor all who make Catholic education special. This includes teachers, administrators, clergy, staff, families, and students. New to our school’s Catholic Schools Week is an Appreciation Station hosted by your Parent-Teacher Group (PTG). The booth will be set up and open daily starting on Monday January 26 through Thursday January 29 at various sites around campus (see schedule below). PTG’s hope is that you, our school families, will inundate and overwhelm our teachers, administrators, clergy, and staff with so many thank-you notes that it will take them days to read through all of them! Blank cards and pens will be provided for you to use or you may write your own at home and drop off in the main collection bin at the Appreciation Station or the smaller bins at Preschool and AM/PM Program. Please also encourage your children to participate and write or draw notes to their teachers. At the morning assembly on Friday January 30, PTG will present the notes to our teachers and deliver the remaining throughout the day. Life is busy these days but we should never be so busy to thank and show our appreciation for those who make St. Mary School the special school it is. We hope you participate!
