JO-JACKS BATTLE TO WIN WORLD SERIES GAME CROWN
The 2015 Cleveland Indians Fantasy
Camp World Series Game featured two
Wild Card teams that lost their league tie
-breakers, but won their LCS games.
In a match-up of two right-handers,
the visiting Legends League Champion
Jo-Jacks sent rookie Bryan Buck to the
hill to face veteran Jack Morgan, who
pitched S&C Tribe to the Heroes League
pennant Thursday morning.
In the top of the first inning, Bob
Lung doubled to right-center field after
Buck walked to open the game, to put
two runners in scoring position. Josh
Nathanson drove in Buck on an infield
single to give Jo-Jacks a 1-0 lead. Frank
Cilona then walked to load the bases.
Morgan then retired the next two
batters at home plate on identical
fielder’s choice come-back grounders,
throwing home to catcher Will Soos for
the force.
Marc Gutin followed with a walk
that scored Cilona for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the S&C Tribe first,
Aaron Morgan walked and Erica Dobie
was hit by a pitch. With one out, Chris
Moore lined a single to center to load the
bases. After the next batter was retired
on an infield popup, Renea Morgan and
George Soss each drew RBI-walks that
tied the game 2-2.
Dave Gutin and Dick Molder
walked to open the Jo-Jacks second.
Morgan, who pitched a complete game
in the HLCS earlier, gave way to Jim
Batzel, who came on in relief.
Bert Stohrer greeted him by lining a
sharp single to left field to load the
bases. After retiring the next batter, Ed
Cosentino was awarded first base on
catcher’s interference to force in a run.
Buck then hit a hard grounder that shortstop Chris Moore fielded and flipped to
George Soos for the force at second that
scored Molder to make it 4-2.
Will Soos reached on an infield single to open the S&C Tribe second. A
Jack Morgan fielder’s choice grounder
and a Paul Woodard walk put runners on
first and second for Aaron Morgan, who
blasted a single to left field that scored
Jack Morgan to draw his team closer, 43. Despite walking Dobie to load the
bases, Buck limited the damage with a
strikeout to end the inning.
Jo-Jacks continued to apply the
pressure in the top of the third. Nathanson opened the inning with a line single
to left. A walk to Cilona and Rick Arnholt’s fielder’s choice grounder sent him
to third. Eric Walsky then scored him
with a pop single to short right-center.
Marc Gutin followed with a hard grounder to short that Moore knocked down
for an infield single. Ron Patterson then
hit a high chopper to short that Moore
fielded cleanly, but only had a play at
first allowing Arnholt to score to extend
the lead 6-3.
Buck then settled into a groove to
hold S&C Tribe scoreless over the next
four innings, notching seven of his
eleven strikeouts, including the final two
batters in the sixth, after Moore singled
and Batzel doubled with one out.
Jo-Jacks completed their scoring in
the fifth on singles by Buck, Lung, and
Cilona.
Trailing 7-3 in the bottom of the
seventh, S&C Tribe fought back to score
two runs on a Will Soos single and walks
to Paul Woodard and Phil Komaransky.
Aaron Morgan and Dobie each followed
with an RB-hit-by-pitch making it 7-5

with the bases loaded and the winning
run on first.
Nathanson was then summoned to
close the game and responded by striking
out the final batter for the save.
“Bryan gutted it out,” co-manager
Mike Jackson said. “Early in the ballgame I told him to attack the strike zone
and make these guys hit the ball. We’ve
got good defense. The only thing that
can beat us is walks. We don’t want any
free passes. Do the best you can and
throw strikes.
“After he hurt his hamstring he
pitched five innings in his first start and
then we turned it over to Nathanson.
“And today he did it again and went
more than six before turning it over.”
“Mike adjusted our defense early in
the week,” co-manager Joe Charboneau
said. “Especially in the infield. We
started fielding and throwing and made
very few errors.
“Putting Josh in left field with his
arm he saved us runs and saved his arm
by not playing him at short. Mike had a
lot of strategy going. Everything worked
out.”
“Joe had a lot to do with it, too,”
Mike added.
“We knew we had to change some
things defensively. We moved Marc
Gutin to third base, which enabled us to
move Walsky, who is a good defensive
player, to where we needed him. When
Josh pitched we moved him to short.
“We pitched and played defense.
The offense was there from day one.
And we had the pitching.
“We pitched and caught the ball
well over the last three games, and that’s
why we won the championship.”

S&C Tribe 10, Buffaloheads 5 - Aaron
Morgan, Erica Dobie, and Doug Smith opened the game with
consecutive singles to key a three-run rally for Wild Card winner S&C Tribe. That same trio, plus Chris Moore and George
Soos, all had base hits in the third inning to score four to take a
decisive 7-1 lead. Jack Morgan went the distance to help his
team win the Heroes League Championship Series Game.
Todd Silverman, Jeremy Bilsky, Brian Roberson, and
Cody Westmoreland got Buffaloheads on the board with two
runs in the home-half of the fourth. Scooter Bilsky and Matt
Underwood singled and Brent Hanks walked in the fourth before Silverman knocked in two runs with a clutch single. Joe
Bauer walked just two in his complete game effort.
Jo-Jacks 11, Southwestern Tribe 0 Staked to a 5-0 lead before throwing his first pitch, veteran JoJacks right-hander Josh Nathanson dominated the Legends
League Championship Series Game with a stunning four-hit
shutout complete game performance. Yielding no walks, he
struck out thirteen in leading the Wild Card Jo-Jacks to the pennant. Bob Lung and Rick Arnholt each tripled, and Marc Gutin
had a pair of doubles and led his team with three RBI.
Southwestern Tribe batters battled throughout, but
could not solve Nathanson. Ken Seelie tripled in the fourth, but
could not advance. Two singles by Willie Geiser and one by
Chris Schubert was the balance of the offense. Nate Segall
made a nice catch to end the top of the first.
Desert Dogs 6, Lefty Style 5 - Pacing the
Desert Dogs fourteen-hit attack with two hits each was Max
Trautman, John Wilson, Tim Zelenak, Rick Parsons and Greg
VanValkenburgh, who pitched well in notching the complete
game victory. Desert Dogs completed their scoring in the
fourth then held on to win the Heroes League Playoff Game
with good defensive plays by Maury Bell, Rich Garcia, Young,
Parsons, and Wilson.
Consecutive singles by Vic Murdock, Frank Maire,
Brian Gongaware, followed by a Mike Detering double and a
Bill Maire single tallied three runs in the fourth to draw Lefty
Style close at 5-3. Ron Budz singled to ignite a sixth inning
rally that scored two runs, closing it to 6-5.
Snowbirds 13, Da Boyz 3 - A seven-run
rally in the top of the first inning and a nine-strikeout complete
game pitching performance by Jeff Smith powered Snowbirds
to victory in the Legends League Playoff Game. Josh Sorge
had three hits. Following with two each were John Ginty and
David Shipps, who blasted a home run and a triple, and led
Snowbirds with four RBI.
Matt Cole had three hits, including a double, while
Marty Cole and Greg DePace, who tripled, each had two for Da
Boyz, who collected thirteen hits, but could only rally for runs
in the second and seventh innings.
Southwestern Tribe 4, Buffaloheads
3 - With the score knotted 3-3 at the end of six innings, Southwestern Tribe threatened but did not score in the seventh to send
the Third Place Playoff Game into extra innings. With one out
in the bottom of the tenth, Nate Segall doubled and Bill Schubert singled. David Azzolina forced Segall at third before Chris
Schubert walked to load the bases. Ken Kramer then drew a
bases-loaded walk for the walk-off victory that went to Chad
Tracy, who pitched a ten-inning complete game.
Buffaloheads collected fifteen hits, including three by
Brent Hanks and Brian Roberson, and two by Cody Westmoreland Jon Waler, and Scooter Bilsky. Matt Underwood pitched
well in his nine innings of work.
Snowbirds 2, Desert Dogs 0 - The Fifth
Place Playoff Game was a classic pitching duel that saw David
Shipps come out on top with a no walks, seven-strikeout complete game effort for Snowbirds. Jeff Smith blasted a home run
to the warning track to add an insurance run in the sixth. The
other tally was in the top of the first, when Josh Sorge singled
home Josh Polster who reached a one-out base hit.
Ted Lesiak was brilliant for Desert Dogs in striking out
eight in his complete game effort. Singles by Rick Parsons,
Ryan Young, and John Wilson was the only offense Desert
Dogs could mount.
Da Boyz 5, Lefty Style 4 - Trailing 4-2
heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, Da Boyz rallied on
singles by Paul Ciccero, Matt Cole, and Greg DePace to load
the bases for Marty Cole, who smashed a single to drive in two
that tied the game 4-4. Trevor Durkalski, who came on in relief
to pitch the final four innings, then delivered a clutch walk-off
single to win the Seventh Place Playoff Game. Jason Greene,
DePace, and Ciccero clicked on a crucial 8-6-3 double play in
the top of the sixth to limit the damage to one run.
Mike Maire struck out nine in his complete game effort. Vic Murdock had four hits and Frank Maire had three to
help Lefty Style outhit their opponent 14-9.
