Develop ‘Independent Operators’
“Players that can diagnose and execute during free
play a vast array of techniques and tactical
scenarios”
Academy Philosophy
Performance Pathway
• The Academy follows a Coaching syllabus of just two Phased Topics;
• 1.
Improving players to regain the ball and retain possession covering all areas of
the pitch
• 2.
Improving players to retain possession and regain possession covering all areas
of the pitch
• The motive behind these two topics are the emphasis surrounding transition.
Attacking to defending and defending to attacking, the processes which go to move
from each state technical, tactically, physically and psychologically/Socially. Also it
means that coaches can deliver session each week based around attacking and
defending principles and transition. The 3 most common states during match play.
• Under the Session structure the Coaching Team will be able to deliver Technical and
Tactical information to formulate all attacking, defending and transitional aspects of
play to help develop our players.
Coaching Syllabus
• Staff will set the example for our Standard of Performance
• Well-presented and attired at all times
• Good communicator – Feedback to players and parents regularly
• A high level of detail into preparation of the session and game – teach or
play/commentate
• A well scripted and rehearsed execution of one’s session
• Passion, enthusiasm and knowledge displayed at all times
• Attention to detail
• Work ethic and work rate – homework topics/testing
• All staff will ‘keep pushing’ in information and performance standards – see what each
INDIVIDUAL can take/absorb
• Coaches will script and prepare pre-game targets based upon the work they have
implemented in training and then review
• Word processed sessions planned weekly
• Commitment to CPD
• Age Group Lead and Assistant coaches
Staffing & Staff Expectations
9-11 Session Structure
• Our primary aim is to introduce and encourage all players in this phase to
‘the ball’ and ignite the love affair that each player must have with mastering
it. In this way our coaches will be asked to repeatedly educate these players
in attacking and defending principles in all techniques over 1v1 – 4v4. Each
and every aspect/technique can be coached/taught through these methods.
Tactically players will be only expected to implement the techniques/skills
they have learnt and the basic principles of attack (creation of space) and
defence (denial/restriction of space and time).
• Training sessions can be innovative and structured via the ‘Whole-PartWhole’ principle to retain the player’s enthusiasm and focus. Futsal balls and
other examples i.e. tennis balls shall be used and an introduction to multiple
outcome sessions.
• In this phase Players must become aware of Deep Practice and Ignition and
be able to understand its relevance in their developmental path.
Coaching Programme
9-11 Foundation Phase
12-16 Session Structure
•
Our primary aim is to further each players learning post Foundation Phase. Mastery of the
ball will still be implemented but each player’s role and responsibility within the team will
be highlighted with more vigour than before. Exposure to different systems and formations
will heighten experience and learning, but ultimately to perform under the same philosophy.
Players should be encouraged but also start to show signs of the Independent Operators we
want at the Football Club. Can they execute upon demand?
•
Learning the game through ‘experimentation’ and ‘exposure’ to modern trends and formats
will allow each player the opportunity to flourish in a position that matches their technical
and physical potential. This also still provides evidence that even though it is a tactical or
collective aspect, the Football Club is observing how individuals can best progress within
alternative positions and systems!
•
Deep Practice is vital in this stage at players will start to evolve ‘individually’ and should be
able to monitor and educate themselves (with assistance and guidance of course!). Ignition
in the early to late teens must be monitored. Social effects, external influences and
maturation take place sometimes removing these players from ‘Deep Practice.’
