Division of Student Life Residence Director 2015-2016 Application Packet January 30, 2015 Dear Applicant, These are exciting times in the Division of Student Life within the Office of Residence Life at Wingate University! The Residence Director graduate assistantship position is growing in responsibility, importance, and experience as the campus is expanding. This position offers many different opportunities for the candidate; but most importantly, you will have the chance to positively engage and impact undergraduate students at Wingate University. The Residence Director is a relationship-oriented position that requires a strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative. In conjunction with the mission of Student Life, this graduate assistant position provides avenues for you to help connect students to the university, to coordinate seamless learning adventures, and to enhance students’ experiences at Wingate University. Enthusiasm, dedication, and the desire to engage students daily are a must! For the 2015-2016 academic year, the Division of Student Life is looking for several graduate students to fulfill the open Residence Director graduate student positions in the Office of Residence Life. The complete team consists of five Residence Directors, and we’re looking for dynamic, self-starting, and motivated applicants. To be considered for the Residence Director position, you must have the following: Resume List of references Complete Wingate University Residence Director application (attached) Preferred qualification: Accepted into a Wingate University graduate program (you may apply for the RD position while in the application process to a Wingate University graduate program) Compensation for this position includes: Housing (furnished apartment, cable, internet connection, and all utilities) Full meal plan (subject to dining hall availability) Graduate school tuition remission for Wingate programs (please contact Director of Residence Life Michael Reynolds at m.reynolds@wingate.edu if you are interested in the Accounting program, as some conditions apply) $8,000 stipend for a ten month contract; and $50 monthly phone reimbursement Please complete the following application. Sincerely, Emily Odio Assistant Director, Office of Residence Life Wingate University WINGATE UNIVERSITY 2015-2016 Residence Director Job Description Primary Responsibilities Supervise 5-8 RAs or CAs in your designated area. (RAs serve first-year traditional residence halls; CAs serve upper-classman apartment style residence halls) Plan and conduct weekly RA staff meetings for the purposes of distributing information, training, planning, support, accountability, and evaluation of performance. Serve as a member of departmental selection committees by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and continuous training of RAs and CAs Evaluate RA or CA staff members regularly in one-on-one meetings and in informal/formal performance reviews throughout the year. Implement the Residence Life Bulldog Programming Model within the RA staff and in conjunction with campus partners. Serve on a 24/7 on-call rotating duty schedule for the University campus. Rotate on-call responsibilities with four other Resident Directors (five total). Serve as a Conduct Officer for Community Standards violations as directed by the Assistant Director and Director of Residence Life for the Office of Community Standards. Conduct monthly Health and Safety facility checks within residential areas; and document/follow-up accordingly with behavioral or maintenance issues. Perform other duties as assigned. General Responsibilities Provide a professional staff presence by living in the community assigned to you. Be consistent, fair, and sensitive in the treatment of all residents; maintain a high level of visibility and contact with residents. Be knowledgeable and capable of explaining and implementing University policies, regulations, and procedures. Maintain student confidentiality and FERPA guidelines. Serve as a positive role model at all times, on and off campus. Complete all paperwork, posting requests, and student communications within the designated time frame. Follow all University policies. Serve as a knowledgeable consultant, resource, and referral agent for the University in academic and policy issues.
