orthrop Grumman Integrated Defence
Services provides the Royal Australian Air
Force (RAAF) 86 Wing, 33 Squadron with
through-life support for its fleet of five Airbus A330200s Multi-role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft
located at RAAF Amberley.
The MRTT represents one of the largest and most
complicated aviation programs ever completed in
Australia, and required more than 100,000 man
hours per aircraft to complete—a job that included
the conversion of a green A300-200 airliner to a
KC-30A tanker.
As the only non-original equipment manufacturer
to have successfully converted, completed entry
into service, and implemented through-life support
for the KC-30A MRTT fleet, Northrop Grumman is a
proven partner to provide global integrated services
to the MRTT.
These services include:

• Transport aircraft experience
• Configuration management expertise
The RAAF was the launch-customer for the MRTT. In
2007, Northrop Grumman converted four A330-200
airframes to MRTT configuration at the company’s
Brisbane Airport facility. The company was also a key
partner in launching the RAAF’s MRTT capabilities at
Amberley, when 33 Squadron relocated from RAAF
Richmond in 2008.

KC-30A Support
Northrop Grumman has established a close working
relationship with the RAAF and the Heavy Air Lift
Systems Program Office to deliver KC-30A MRTT
through-life support.
The Northrop Grumman team delivers all aspects of
through-life support for the KC-30A fleet, with dedicated
facilities, warehouses and infrastructure for the most
cost-effective performance outcomes for the highest level
of fleet availability. This is demonstrated by a 99.8 percent
demand satisfaction rate for component supply, with 215
aircraft parts being supplied on average, per month.
Furthermore, the company has Authorised Engineering
Organisations and Approved Maintenance Organisations
designations to perform all KC-30A maintenance and
engineering activities.
