UPLOADING A RESUME (CONTINUED)
Find the document you want to upload by clicking on “Choose File.” Double-click the name of the file to
bring it into BuckyNet. The filename should now appear to the right of the “Choose File” button. Enter a
descriptive label above, which may or may not be identical to the filename. Make sure the appropriate
“Document Type” is selected, and then click “Submit.”
DEFAULT RESUME
You may upload different versions of your resume customized for specific categories of jobs. If you
upload multiple resumes, you must designate one version as your “Default Resume” for inclusion in the
Resume Book distributed to employers. When you apply for a specific position, you will be asked which
version of your resume to submit.
EDITING YOUR RESUME
Uploaded documents may not be edited in BuckyNet. Instead, edit the original document in your wordprocessing software (e.g., Microsoft Word), save the new version, and upload it to BuckyNet again. If
you have more than one version of your resume, each must be edited and uploaded individually.
RESUME APPROVAL
When you upload your resume into BuckyNet, it will be listed in the system as “Pending” until a Career
Advisor has the opportunity to review and approve it. Your resume will be reviewed and feedback will
be provided within 72 business hours. Please plan accordingly since you will need an approved resume
to be able to apply for jobs and sign up for on-campus interviews.

ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEWS
Many companies who recruit UW-Madison students
will offer on-campus interviews for their positions.
When searching for positions, if you want to limit
your search to those employers who will be
conducting on-campus interviews, select “Show Me:
All Interviews.”
Note that on-campus interviews are either “Open” or
“Pre-select:”
Open Interviews:
If you meet the requirements of a job posting, you will be able to select an interview time from the slots
available. If you do not meet the requirements, you may e-mail the recruiter and ask to be added to the
interview list.
Pre-select Interviews:
If you want to be considered for a “Pre-select” interview, you must submit a resume through BuckyNet.
Upon submission, the status of your request will be “Pending” until the recruiter decides whether or not
to invite you for an interview. Click on the Interviews tab and look for your status under “Requested
Interviews.”

INTERVIEW LATE CANCELLATION / NO SHOW POLICY
The deadline for cancelling or changing interviews without penalty is called the Sign-Up End Date.
The Sign-Up End Date is typically 3-4 days before an interview. It is set by the employer and is clearly
identified in each job posting. Changes or cancellations may be made online through 11:59 pm
Central Time on the Sign-Up End Date and require no further notification to the employer or the
Student Academic Affairs office. Select the Interviews link on the navigation toolbar, find the
interview you wish to change, and click reschedule. You may then select a different time if one is
available.
To change or cancel an interview after the Sign-Up End Date, you must notify the SoHE Student
Academic Affairs and Career Services Office in 1194 Nancy Nicholas Hall or 608-262-2608. Leave a
message if you are calling outside of office hours. Do not e-mail the Student Academic Affairs Office
to change or cancel your interview.
If you fail to report for an interview, or if you cancel an interview after the Sign-Up End Date, your
access to BuckyNet will be BLOCKED until you do both of the following:
•
•
Meet with a SoHE career advisor; and
Write a letter of apology to the company recruiter and carbon copy Renee Smith at
rmsmith27@wisc.edu.
Note that “mock” interviews are considered the same as real interviews for purposes of this policy.
Classes, employment, group projects and homework are not valid reasons to cancel interviews after
the Sign-Up End Date.
Students who accumulate two late cancellations or “no-shows”
will have their BuckyNet privileges REVOKED for one academic year.
ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW NOTES
On-campus interviews will take place in various locations on campus. Please note the interview location
in the job posting. If your interview takes place in a different school, you must follow the late
cancellation/no show policy of that school.
If you do not meet the requirements of a position listed on BuckyNet but would still like to apply, you
may e-mail your resume to the contact person listed in the lower right column of the job description
screen. The recruiter will decide whether or not your qualifications and interest warrant an interview.
The Student Academic Affairs Office cannot put you on an interview schedule without permission from
the recruiter.
On rare occasions, an employer may be forced to cancel scheduled interviews. If this happens, the
Student Academic Affairs Office will notify you as quickly as possible. Make sure that the e-mail and
phone number listed on your BuckyNet profile are current.

JOB BOARD LISTINGS AND OFF-CAMPUS INTERVIEWS
Job listings without on-campus interview schedules attached to them have interviews that are NOT held
on-campus. In these cases, if an employer would like to interview you, they will contact you directly to
arrange the time and place.
The job posting will specify the process for applying to the position. In some cases, you will submit your
resume through BuckyNet. In other cases, you will be directed to the company website and asked to
apply through their employment pages.
The Student Academic Affairs and Career Services Office rarely has additional information concerning
these postings beyond what is included in BuckyNet, and does not usually communicate with the
employer about their recruitment process. If you have questions about your application status or the
follow-up timeframe, please e-mail the main contact whose information appears in the lower right
column of the job description.
HOW DO I MEET WITH A CAREER ADVISOR?
You may meet with a career advisor during drop-in hours from 10:00am-12:00pm on Wednesdays and
1:00-3:00pm on Thursdays. You may also schedule an appointment ahead of time by calling the Student
Academic Affairs and Career Services Office at 608-262-2608 or stopping by the office (1194 Nancy
Nicholas Hall).
If scheduling an appointment ahead of time, please be prepared to provide your name, phone number,
major, student id number, and reason for wanting to meet with an advisor.
