Morning Announcements Tuesday, February 10th, 2015 D Day 4 GENERAL The Yearbook Committee has come up with a f b l fabulous prize i for f our MONTH OF LUNCHES campaign. The theme for this year is LEAVE YOUR MARK. The St. Thomas student who raises the most money for the lunch program in Haiti will have his or her hand print placed on the front cover of this year year's s yearbook! Now THAT's a way to leave your mark! Thanks to Ms. Fabes and Her Yearbook Committee for this great idea. Attention to all Variety Show acts! There is a meeting i tomorrow, Wednesday, W d d February F b 11th in Mr. Katz’s room at recess. Make sure to be there or be square! q Attention New York Trip students: There is a list of students posted at the front office who should see Mr. Allali ASAP. Did you know that most homeless people are men and that the number of homeless women is on the rise? We are still collecting new men’s socks and underwear to donate to the Welcome Hall Mission Mission. Your donation of these items would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off in the OASIS until February 13th. There will be a Free the Children meeting at 12:05 in room 187 today, y, February y 10th. Please be on time! It's that time again, St. Thomas. Our 3rd dance of the year, Fright Knight, will be taking place this Friday....Friday the 13th to be exact! Come jjoin us for a night g of fun,, and some Valentine's Day love...but beware of the goblins and ghouls! Sign up sheets are available in the Shack and in room 147. 147 Today we pay tribute to Muhammad Ali who was born Cassius Clay on January 17th, 1942. At age 12, boxer In 1960, 1960 he won he began his training as a boxer. the Light Heavyweight gold medal at the Olympics, kicking off his boxing career. In 1964, he announced that he had joined the Nation of Islam, and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. Because of this he was stripped of his titles. Two years later, he refused to fight g in the Vietnam war due to his religious values, and the U.S department of Justice suspended him for 3 years. Upon return, he continued his success, but in 1981 he announced his retirement. Four years after, Muhammad Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, but that did not stop him from making a difference; he supported t d numerous charities h iti such h as the th Make-aM k Wish foundation, and travelled to many countries that were in the midst of conflict, for example Iraq and Afghanistan. Afghanistan In 2005 he was rewarded for his efforts, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. SPORTS Congratulations to the midget girls basketball for winning quarter finals yesterday against Sacred heart. They are now moving on to semi-finals next Wednesday against BHS. Go Knights! There will be a practice for both Midget and Juvi boys badminton players on Wednesday at 4pm. Congratulations to the Girls Juvi-basketball team who ended regular season with and outstanding 59 - 19 victory over Villa Maria last night ensuring a spot in the playoffs next week. Captain Christine O'Neill led the assa lt with assault ith 17 points and several se e al assists followed follo ed closely by Zoe Arvanitis who rained three pointers for a total of fifteen. Kya Morgan made several spectacular fast breaks to come in with 14 points while Kiandra Browne and Julie O'Neill dominate under the rim, A special shout out goes to Julia Warren whose selfless passing and superior knowledge of the floor enabled our team to achieve the highest score of the season. Other scorers included Sarah Armstrong and Stefani Laguë with the entire team putting in great performances. The team will be taking on Lauren Hill here at St Thomas next Monday at 3:45. Come out and cheer our team all the way to the Provincials!
