OUR LADY OF LOURDES
FEAST DAY~ FEBRUARY 11th
The Shrine of Our Lady of
Lourdes in southern France
is one of the most visited
pilgrimage sites in the world principally because of the
apparent healing properties
of the waters of the spring that
appeared during the apparitions
of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a
poor, fourteen-year-old girl,
Bernadette Soubiroux.
The first apparition occurred
February 11, 1858. There were eighteen in all; the last
took place July 16th, of the same year. The mysterious
vision Bernadette saw, was that of a young and beautiful
lady. She described the Lady as clothed in white, with a
blue ribbon sash and a Rosary hanging from her right
arm. One day, the Lady told the girl to drink from a
fountain within the grotto itself, and of which there
was no sign. But Bernadette scratched at the ground,
and a spring immediately bubbled up. After another
apparition, Bernadette reported that the Lady told
her, “I am the Immaculate Conception”.
A basilica was built upon the rock of Massabielle
by M. Peyramale, the parish priest. Pope Leo XIII
authorized a special office and a Mass, in
commemoration of the apparition, and in 1907
Pius X extended the observance of this feast to the entire
Church; it is now observed on February 11th.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE
If you’ve lost a child through miscarriage, illness,
accident, stillbirth or abortion or have struggled with
infertility, please join us for a Mass of Remembrance.
This special Mass provides an opportunity to honor and
remember, to pray and be prayed for, to be comforted
through the Sacraments and to receive resources. Mass
will be offered at Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s Church in
New York Mills on Sunday, February 15th at 11:00am.
All are invited to attend in prayerful support.
For more information, please contact the
Syracuse Diocese Respect Life Office at 470-1418.
NATIONAL BOY SCOUT SUNDAY
The Boy Scouts of America annually celebrates its
founding on February 8th, based on the program started
by Lord Baden Powell. The Scout Sunday tradition was
started to make people in houses of worship aware of
Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out their "Duty to
God" pledged each week. The Scout Law says that a
"Scout is Reverent" and the Scouts of all ages promise to
do their "Duty to God". These values strengthen youth
character in their family, community and faith. Our
Parish Community would like to welcome Boy Scouts
of all ages and faiths to our celebration this weekend.

ones have to suffer and die? Where is Jesus when we do?
Why does he allow it? Why is there so much violence,
bullying, war, disease, and painful relationships?
