Dr Catherine Keen from University College, London, will speak on the Italian poet Dante. On Thursday 26th March there will be a Lenten Evening of Reflection, staring at 7.30pm. On Thursday 30th April Professor Neil Scolding will speak on the dangers of allowing assisted suicide and other medical moral issues. Hot food (pizza or soup) will be provided from 7.30pm. The meeting starts at 8pm. All those aged 18-35 welcome to attend. COMPANIONS OF THE ORDER OF MALTA “Our mission is to practise our faith and to practise charity”. The Companions of the Order of Malta are a volunteer force for the charitable work of the British Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Open to all, they work in the Order’s care homes and in parishes – feeding the homeless, helping the elderly and disabled, organising pilgrimages, retreats and services, as well as supporting the international work of the Order of Malta. It promotes the spiritual development of its members by offering weekly meetings, with celebrations of Mass, conversation, prayer and reflection. New members are always welcome. In light of strict data protection rules it is essential that on entering hospital you indicate that your details or those of your relative are to be passed to the Roman Catholic Chaplain. Also state that you or your relative would like the Roman Catholic Chaplain to visit you. Chaplains visit the wards during the week and provide an on-call service in case of emergency. PRIEST REFERENCE FOR SCHOOL APPLICATIONS Parents who wish one of the Oratory Fathers to give their child a school reference must register with the “Mass Attendance” scheme. Registration forms are available from the Oratory House. GIFT AID – HELPING THE ORATORY If you are a UK taxpayer, the Oratory can claim back from the Inland Revenue 25p of every £1 you give, at no cost or inconvenience to you. Setting up a Gift Aid arrangement helps the Oratory to increase its income, which is much needed for the upkeep of the church and for the many pastoral activities in the parish. Gift aid envelopes are available at the entrance of the church. Please contact Laura on 07909 319012. FROM THE DIOCESE Smart Loving UK runs weekend marriage enrichment seminars that aim to revive, affirm and celebrate marriages. For Catholic couples at every stage of their married life, the weekend is a chance to rediscover the joy of being man and wife in love, drawing on the wisdom of authentic Catholic teaching on the Theology of the Body. The next Smart Loving weekend, which includes an optional overnight stay, will take place on the 7th-8th March at Latimer Place, Chesham, Herts. For more information please ring Freda on 01322 401243 or Sandra on 01293 783965. Cardinal’s Mass of Thanksgiving for the Sacrament of Matrimony: Westminster Cathedral, Saturday 23rd May 2015 at 3pm. The Cardinal Archbishop invites to this Mass all couples in the Diocese who are celebrating their 10th, 25th, 30th, 40th, 50th and 60th (and every year over 60) wedding anniversary of their Catholic marriage in 2015. If you qualify, please give contact Fr Michael Lang on michaellang@rcdow.org.uk or 020 7808 0900 and give him the following details: husband and wife’s names, wedding date, full postal address and email (or telephone number, if no email). INFORMATION FOR MARRIAGE If you would like to be married at the Oratory, we will need at least 6 months notice. For the initial enquiry please come to the Oratory House in person and ask to speak to the priest on duty (see Hours of Duty below). All subsequent meeting, bookings and arrangements will be done through him, so please make a note of his name! If you do not normally worship at the Oratory, please state the name of the church where you usually attend Mass and give the reasons you wish to marry here (for instance, personal connection to the Oratory or one of our schools). Please remember that it is important to approach the church first before making your plans for a reception venue. There are various arrangements and legalities, both civil and ecclesiastical which need to be attended to. You will also need to undergo a course of preparatory instruction about the sacrament of marriage. Please speak to the priest for more details.
