Go Red for Heart Month
Ridgecrest News
By Tori Couch
Greystone is committed to healthy,
worthy and impactful causes. We are proud to
support the American Heart Association's Go
Red For Women initiative and National Heart
Month.
This February, Greystone kicks of the Go
Red Survivor Gallery, a traveling gallery of
heart issue survivors featuring Greystone's
own associates. Traveling through the Tampa
Bay and St. Petersburg area, the gallery
showcases women who have dealt with heart
attacks, arrhythmia (dangerously rapid heart
rate), and battled through heart conditions
from birth.
Many women may be unaware of
potential heart attack signs which differ greatly
from men. Often misdiagnosed, women's
symptoms include:
 Chest discomfort or upper body pain in the
back, shoulders, arms, stomach, jaw, neck
or throat
 Lightheadedness or dizziness
 Nausea or vomiting
 Inability to sleep or unusual fatigue
 Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
February, 2015
As the 2015 Go Red Tampa Bay Chair,
Connie Bessler, CEO of Greystone Healthcare
Management, is raising awareness and support
for women's heart health. "Through education
we can highlight the different ways heart
concerns can manifest themselves and
encourage better care and safety. A number
one killer of women, we must be constantly
vigilant against such a serious – and often
overlooked – health concern."

Here we Grow Again!
Many of you who have been
customers with us know that Ridgecrest
has been different sizes over the past 5
years. When I came to the facility 6
years ago, the facility had 160 beds.
Then a few years later we were 145
beds. Recently the past year we were 130 beds.
Now, because of the demand in the market for more beds
at Ridgecrest we will be adding an additional 20 beds in the
middle of January 2015. What this will mean is that some of the
private rooms will become semi private. Adding the additional
beds will not in any way take away from the standard of care that
we are known for in the community.
Most of these additional beds will be located in the Skilled
area’s of the facility. Very few will be in the Long Term Care area.
Thank you for your patience in allowing us to grow.

Americans see the human heart as a symbol of
Love. February is American Heart Month, a time
to show yourself the love. Learn about your risks
for heart disease and stroke and stay heart
healthy for yourself and your loved ones.
CVD (Cardiovascular Disease ) including heart
disease, stroke, and high blood pressure is the
number 1 killer of woman and men in the US. It
is a leading cause of disability, preventing
Americans from working and enjoying family
activities. CVD costs the US over 300 billion each
year including the cost of health care services,
medications, and lost productivity.
team, monitor your blood pressure, get your
cholesterol checked, maintain a healthy diet and
exercise regularly. Do not smoke, because
smoking greatly increases your risk for CVD.
Together we all can prevent and manage heart
disease one step at a time. Go Red!!!
Having a close relative who has heart disease
puts you at higher risk for CVD. During 20072009 death rates due to heart disease were the
highest in the south and lowest in the West.

Mary found her wedding cake topper for the cake she made from scratch.
As it cooled in its heart-shaped pan, she dreamt of the day she’d wed her match.
“What a lucky spouse I have,” she thought as she continued baking treats;
5 heart-shaped cookie cutters, icing, and 5 pie tins later, her surprise was complete.
At 4 p.m., she used the bottle opener on the last of 3 Dr. Peppers,
and then dinner prep began
As Mary sang sweet nothings in the kitchen,
anticipating the arrival of her kind, handsome man.
Starting with hors d’oeuvres, 4 plates were filled with mango, cheese, crackers, and a knife,
4 tins of mints, 4 chocolate bars, and 8 bonbons wrapped in gold and purple foil so tight.
Onto the entrée, the not-so-newlywed cooked 4 potatoes, a ham, and 10 Brussels sprouts
Seasoned with red wine vinegar, Rosemary leaves, and black pepper sprinkled about.
A white tapered candle was lit for ambiance after 2 boxes of matches were finally found.
Then a cassette tape of the couple’s favorite music was played—oh, how sweet the sound!
Just like clockwork, Mary’s dapper groom arrived back home that eve at 6:23,
The exact time 40 years ago when he had said the words, “To love and to hold I marry thee.”
Mary greeted him with a hug and a kiss as he graced her with a dozen roses so red,
And in unison they exclaimed, “I love you even more than the day we were wed!”

Have you ever had one of those Mondays
where you come home from work, sit down to
relax, and see the remnants of a long weekend
with your children or grandchildren, then think
to yourself, “Wow, I really need to clean this
place up?” You’re too tired, so you decide that
you will just have to do it later. Suddenly, the
phone rings and that’s when you remember it’s
your turn to have the neighborhood watch
meeting at your house and they will be there in
twenty minutes! You spring from the couch to
start stuffing clothes and shoes into any nook
and cranny you can find, toss a blanket over an
unmade bed to make it look more orderly, and
then shove toys underneath it.
Please understand this not the standard of
which I clean my house, it was, however, just one
of those days. I learned two things that day,
which are: never preheat your oven until you
remove any dishes that may be in there, and
also, all I need to do next Christmas is slide my
tree out of the closet and plug it in.
Here at Ridgecrest my staff and I work
hard everyday to make sure that our facility is
cleaned and organized in every way possible for
you and your family. Unlike the Lego that was on

that one tiny Lego that you somehow missed.
The pain shoots through you as you’re jumping

Rita S. came to Ridgecrest in November after spinal
surgery for rehabilitation. She chose here because she had
previously had surgery a few years back and was happy with
her recovery and ability to return home.
On her admission she required assistance with her self
care and mobility. She was assisted by the therapist to learn
how to manage her dressing and bed mobility while
maintaining her precautions. She has since progressed to
Independent with her self care and ambulates with a rolling
walker.

She says she is now residing at Ridgecrest because of
how clean, friendly and thorough the building is. She says that
when someone tells you they are going to do something that
they get it done. She was impressed how the administrator,
Maureen, was so helpful in resolving any issues quickly.

She likes how the staff placed her bird feeder outside
her window and the fact that they help keep it filled. Rita also
likes the activities here stating they are “interesting and
great”. Her favorite she says was the mystery tea.
We would like to say Thank You to Rita for choosing us,
not only for rehab but for making this her home.
