will have its 2015 Monadnock Region
Primitive Biathlon on Sunday, February
15th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with sign-up
at 7 a.m.
Rather than the Olympic-style target
rifles and cross-country skis, this unusual event involves the use of muzzle
loading rifles and snowshoes. Period
dress is definitely encouraged, although
not required.
The approximately 1.5 mile long
course can be enjoyed by the average
sportsman – you needn’t be an Olympic
athlete. The route will be well-marked
and will include four target stages with
a total of nine shots. Times will be adjusted based on shooting scores (hits),
putting an emphasis on accuracy. The
final target stage will be in an open, spectator area where families of the entrants
and anyone interested can watch.
This event will be held regardless
of the weather. In the event that there
is insufficient snow for snowshoes,
participants should bring good walking boots.Trophies will be awarded to
First Place Overall, First Smoothbore
(no rear sight), First Pistol, First Woman
(any age), First Junior (under sixteen),
First Elder (60 and over), First Modern
(inline, scopes allowed), and first in
the “Woods Walk” (an un-timed category).
