The new turf field has received outstanding reviews from our coaches and student athletes and truly is an accomplishment that we as community can be very proud of. Our second large undertaking this year includes a complete new surface for our track, triple jump, long jump & pole vault areas, all to be completed by January 1st. Lake Mary High will soon be the home to not only a fantastic playing field but a track that is second to none in all of Central Florida. Every year the booster club contributes thousands of dollars to LMHS team sports. This year $6,800 from membership sales went back to the teams selected at membership sign up. An additional $6,000 was spent on FHSAA state expenses to assist our state playoff teams. The booster club also sponsored several team Senior Nights. Lake Mary athletes continue to be some of the best in the state and represent our school and community with pride and outstanding achievement. Girls Cross Country The Lake Mary Rams Girls Cross Country capped off this year's season with the highest team placement for the Lady Rams in over a decade at the State Championships in Tallahassee. After graduating four out of seven varsity members, it seemed the Rams would have had a rebuilding year. However, this was not the case. With freshmen Cheyenne St. Lewis, Maggie Lyons, Angela Jordan, and Brianna Simcox, the Running Rams had their best season in a decade. Some team highlights this year: 1st place overall finish at Seminole Invitational at the National Training Center in Clermont, 2nd place finish in the prestigious Invite Only Flrunners Race of Champions, Seminole Athletic Conference and District RunnerUp, 4th place finish in the "Region of Death," and a 7th place finish in the 4A State Meet. Perhaps the most impressive performances for the Rams was on an individual level. Senior Niki Demeter ended her four career with a 2nd Team All Conference finish. Freshmen Cheyenne St. Lewis 6th place overall finish in the SAC meet earned her 1st Team All Conference Honors, and her 5th place overall finish at the District Championship earned her All District Honors and qualified her individually for Regions. Sophomore standout Daniela Urzua's 3rd place overall finishes at Conference and Districts earned her 1st Team All Conference and District Honors. Even more impressive was her 5th place podium finish in the Region of Death, qualifying her individually for the State Championships. At the State Meet, Daniela once again proved her dominance with an 8th place overall podium finish. Daniela's incredible best 5k time of 18:33 makes her the 2nd fastest female cross country runner in the history of Lake Mary High School. Daniela is second only to teammate and current school record holder, Senior Fatema Jaffer. A recent FSU signee, Fatema ends her four year career as a Running Ram as the fastest female cross country runner Lake Mary has ever had. As an individual Fatema never finished lower than 3rd place overall in any regular season competition. In the State Series, Fatema's 2nd place overall finish at Conference and Districts earned her 1st Team All Conference and District Honors. Her 4th place podium finish in the Region of Death qualified her individually to the State Championships, where she didn't disappoint finishing 6th place overall. She continued her dominance in the post season with a 1st place overall finish in the Invite Only FACA All Star Senior meet, proving she is the fastest senior across all classifications in the state of Florida. Fatema capped off her incredible season with a personal best 5k time of 18:00 and was the top female finisher for the state of Florida at the Footlocker Southeast Regional Championships in North Carolina. The Running Rams are looking forward to continuing their dominance in the upcoming track season. Go Rams!
