Paul Williams
This is to let you know that after many weeks of illness Paul passed
away peacefully early Wednesday morning at the Care Home where
he has been since October. Paul was a friend to many and a loving
father and husband. He will be missed by us all but we are thankful
that he is now with his Lord. With love, Elizabeth Williams.
Women’s Fellowship
The Women’s Fellowship enjoyed a warm welcome at the Catholic
Chaplaincy on Tuesday 10th February to hear a talk by the Catholic
Chaplain to the University, Monika Chmelova. She spoke to us about
how God had spoken to her in her life, so that we might think about
how he speaks to us in ours. A very inspiring afternoon with beautiful
music. Our next meeting will be at Mary Bulmer’s on Tuesday 24 th
February. All are very welcome. For lifts see Ellie. Ellie Jones.
Women’s World Day of Prayer
There will be a service for the Women’s World Day of Prayer at
Penrallt Baptist chapel in Upper Bangor on Friday 6 th March at 2 p.m.
This year’s service has been prepared by the women of the Bahamas
for the people of the world. Anyone who would like to help by making
paper flowers to decorate the venue (and the speakers!), or cakes for
the refreshments, would be greatly appreciated. All are welcome, men
women and children! Ellie Jones.
Evening service 22nd February
The evening service on 22nd will be an informal celebration of the
Universal Day of Prayer for Students, focussing on students of all
ages, and led by Adam, the student youth worker, MethSoc and
myself. All are very welcome to come to give thanks for the privilege
of learning. Ellie Jones
Street Pastors’ Commissioning Service
We would like to invite you all to a special service to commission five
new Street Pastors. The service will be held at 8.00 p.m. on Friday
20th February in Our Lady & St James Church. All welcome. Please
note Nan Bate from St. John’s is being commissioned on 20 th.
From CYTÛN Bangor Churches Together, via email.
BRF Bookstall
On the BRF bookstall today, there is a choice of four different Lent
books. They follow a similar format, with a different topic each week
with four or five pages to read and think about each day.
If that seems a bit demanding, have a look at “Moments of Grace;
Reflections on meeting with God”, by Joy McCormick @ £6.99, which
Val Peaden enjoyed and recommends.
Alternatively, you may wish to start using the current dated daily Bible
reading notes. There are four titles to choose from plus “Quiet
Spaces”. If you are not ready to dip your toe in the water, then please
feel free to take a copy of the free back-dated notes to see what is on
offer. Anne Jackson, Volunteer BRF Rep. for N. Wales.
Lent Study Group
Rev. Chrissie Howe and Judith Holliman will be leading a Lent Study
Group at St. John’s (probably vestry) every Thursday afternoon in Lent
at 2:30 p.m., starting on 26th February. The group will be using this
year’s CTBI study material, “Walking and praying with Christians of the
Middle East". The topics are:
Week 1: Syria - Into the wilderness.
Week 2: Israel - Covenant with Abraham, Sarah and us.
Week 3: Egypt - The Law revives us.
Week 4: Iraq - Questioning, Rebellion, Redemption.
Week 5: Lebanon - We wish to see Jesus.
Week 6: Palestine - Entering Jerusalem.
The material is downloadable by the week from the CTBI Web site
http://www.ctbi.org.uk/688 Howard Jackson.
