“DO NOT BE DEPRESSED.
DO NOT LET YOUR WEAKNESS MAKE YOU IMPATIENT.
INSTEAD, LET THE SERENITY OF YOUR SPIRIT
SHINE THROUGH YOUR FACE.
LET THE JOY OF YOUR MIND BURST FORTH.
LET WORDS OF THANKS BREAK FROM YOUR LIPS.”
St. Peter Damian
My Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Yes, this is the first Sunday of Lent, but it is not a time of misery brought
forth by the sinful state we find ourselves in. Rather, it is a time of opportunity, opportunity for seeking fulfillment in the spiritual realm. Through
these forty days of Lent we have time for introspection, time to look
deeply inside, not on what we are, but on what we hope to become.
Now, we seek to be imitators of Christ; our hope is to become one with
Him and in Him.
If you have any questions about listed events contact Karen Gray.
♦6th-8th grade students, it’s your turn! Mark your calendars for the 6th8th grade Spring Retreat at Cragun’s Resort. The retreat will be held
April 24-26. Join us for another incredible diocesan wide retreat. Fr. Mike
Schmitz will lead us for this action-packed and fun-filled weekend. Registration will be available soon on the diocesan website:
www.dioceseduluth.org. Contact Karen Gray with any questions.!
!
♦10th-12th grade students who are interested in becoming junior counselors for Camp Survive and other diocesan events can now register
online at dioceseduluth.org/Jr--H.
♦Any 9th grade student who is interested in joining this year’s prayer
team for Camp Survive contact Karen Gray at ihckaren@crosslake.net.

We are told in Psalm 25:8-9, “He guides the humble to justice, and He
teaches the humble His way.” To grow in fulfillment of our hope we need
to grow in humility. To me, humility is understanding that God is God,
and I am not. It is knowing my place before God. It is knowing that all I
can ever hope to be is given to me as pure gift through His grace and
mercy.
If you have any questions, please contact Marilyn Lessard.
1.) Who administers the sacrament of Holy Matrimony?
a.) the Bishop
b.) the Priest
c.) the man and the woman
In the reading from 1Peter we read these words, “Beloved: Christ suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that He
might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, He was brought to life in
the Spirit.” If we would become He whom we imitate, we must put our
hand in His hand, die to self, and be led to God. There is no other way;
the way to fulfillment is the way of the cross.
We are told in the Gospel for today that, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God
is a hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” John has been arrested,
Jesus is about to embark on His journey to the cross, and has already in
His mind and spirit started down that path, the path to purchase salvation
for you and for me. There is no other way.
My Sisters and Brothers, fasting is good. Giving up some things is good.
However, unless we seek to grow spiritually, to grow in humility, to grow
in love, we haven’t done a thing or accomplished a thing. I pray that the
serenity of our spirits always shine through the ashes on our faces. Our
beautiful Savior desires this for all of us. He loves you; I love you; love
one another.
Deacon Barry

(creamy or crunchy), personal care products
(toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper,

Reflection for the First Sunday of Lent—Once
again we begin the season of Lent. We are encouraged to reflect on our lives, sinfulness, and
to make resolutions to improve ourselves in the
coming year. Perhaps there is another approach
we might take. Begin by reading Psalm 25
verses 4-10. Read it aloud and listen carefully.
Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind
to understand what the Lord wishes to teach you
this Lent. Use this Psalm for your daily prayer
throughout the season and discover the path the
Lord will guide you on,.
“Your ways, O Lord, make known to me;
Teach me your paths.”
