Here is how it works: • Sign up; (remember the purpose is to meet new people). We encourage those who are single to sign up as well. • Once you are in a group be open to extending an invitation to non-churched friends, neighbors or co-workers. • Over three months from April until June rotate meetings either at homes or at restaurants. Divide up responsibilities as to main course; desert, etc. For more information contact Alston Lippert aflippert@aol.com or Gerald Watford, watford@neumc.com. A sign-up sheet is available in narthex. Thanks be to God. SERMON “Giving Up Expectations” Pastor Day INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP HOLY COMMUNION, No. 12 PRAYER OF CONFESSION O holy and merciful God, we confess that we have not always taken upon ourselves the yoke of obedience, nor been willing to seek and to do your perfect will. We have not loved you with all our heart and mind and soul and strength, neither have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. You have called to us in the need of our sisters and brothers, and we have passed unheeding on our way. In the pride of our hearts, and our unwillingness to repent, we have turned away from the cross of Christ, and have grieved your Holy Spirit. (WESLEYAN METHODIST CONFERENCE, ENGLAND, 20TH CENT., ALT.) All offer prayers of confession in silence. May almighty God, who caused light to shine out of darkness, shine in our hearts, cleansing us from all our sins, and restoring us to the light of the knowledge of God's glory, in the face of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. (THE BOOK OF WORSHIP 1944, ALT.) COMMUNION MUSIC Ka-Young Lee, piano (Wine and grape juice are used for communion. Center chalice is grape juice. Ka-Young Lee, piano MEMORY VERSE Welcome Guests and Members! Genesis 12:1-2 (NIV) We are so glad that you are here and hope you feel at home as you join us in worship. We’d like to get to know you better. The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Date:__________________________ Service 9:00 SERMON LESSON Member Genesis 12:1-9 (NIV) Regular Attendee 1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. 2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." 4 So Abram left, as the LORD had told him. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. 6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. 9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev. 11:15 First Time Guest New Resident Name(s) Name(s) & Ages of Children Address, City, State, Zip Home Phone: Email: FAMILY MINISTRY MINUTE Christopher Gadsden of S.C. designed the flag with the coiled snake and the words, “Don’t Tread on Me.” Defiance can be a good thing but it can also cost us dearly with God, with family members and friends. Jonah had become defiant with God. Defiance, when aimed at God, whether intentionally or unintentionally, damages the relationship. What role is defiance playing in your relationships? ─Gerald Watford, Director of Family Ministries CURRENT SERMON SERIES “Giving Up!” March 1: “Giving Up Superiority” John 4:5-28, 38-42 March 8: “Giving Up Enemies” Luke 19:37-44 March 15: “Giving Up Our Lives” Ezekiel 37:1-14 Luke 9:21-25 March 22: “Giving Up Judgmentalism” Galatians 5:1-13 March 29: “Giving Up Popularity” Palm Sunday Matthew 21:1-11 How Did You Learn About NEUMC?
