Steve joined Expera in 2009, bringing a wealth of
experience in engineering, chemicals, sheeting and
paper mill operations management. Prior to joining
Expera, Steve spent 17 years in the printing and
writing side of the industry working in a number of
Consolidated/Stora Enso/NewPage mills, leading
paper machine, pulp mill and sheeting operations.
He joined Expera’s Thilmany mill 6 years ago focused on capital improvements to increase the flexibility of the mill’s largest paper machine to meet the
diverse needs of Expera’s customer base. Steve
became the mill manager in 2012, until October
of 2014 when he was named Operations Lead –
Strategic Initiatives for Expera Specialty Solutions.
He currently provides operational leadership for
Expera’s mills, and he leads strategic growth initiatives such as the Old Town acquisition. He holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in Paper Science and a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Western
Michigan University, a Master of Science degree in
Paper Science from the Institute of Paper Science
& Technology, and an Executive MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Steve and his three children call Appleton, WI
home. There he enjoys supporting his two sons at
the University of WI achieve their undergraduate
goals, and helping his daughter navigate the challenges of high school and selecting her choice of
colleges.
AK has over 40 years of global pulping experience with
a strong technical background in modern fiberlines
and extensive management experience in market pulp
manufacturing. His latest role as CEO of IGIC started in
2010 with the acquisition of Cascade Pulp and Paper in
Halsey, Oregon, and Woodland Pulp in Maine. The company continues to grow with the most recent formation of
St. Croix Tissue, also in Woodland, ME.
AJ has two sons. His eldest is married and lives in California and the other is recently out of college and works
in NYC. AJ’s wife Suman travels with him as he splits his
time between Maine and Oregon.

Ray, a respected pulp and paper sales and marketing
executive with 35 years experience in the industry, is the
Founder and President of The Heuchling Group, Inc.,
an organization dedicated to providing a broad range of
consulting and trading services for growth-focused companies within the pulp and paper industry.
Throughout his business career, Ray has been an active member of industry associations. A past president of
the Paper Industry Management Association (PIMA), he
currently serves on its board of directors, and is chairman of the PIMA Foundation.

Ray has served on the Board of Executives of the Sloane
Foundation Center for Paper Business Industry Studies
(CPBIS) at Georgia Tech, and has served as chairman of
the foundation’s Industry Advisory Board. He is also on
the board of directors of the Education and Training Committee of TAPPI, as well as a member of TAPPI’s Bio-Refining Committee. Ray is past president, and now serves
on the board of directors of the Association of American
Wood Pulp Importers, as well as the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame.

Paper Days 2015 registrations can be made by filling out the on-line registration form and emailing it
to woodcock@maine.edu. Registrations can also be
made by calling The Pulp & Paper Foundation Office
at (207) 581-2297. You may also fax the form to
(207) 581-2000. For your convenience when making
a reservation, we are able to accept payment using
Visa or MasterCard.
Registration for the complete event is $250, $150 if
you plan to attend only Wednesday, or $100 if you
plan to attend only Thursday. A Registration table will
be set up in the atrium of Wells Conference Center
for the duration of the program.

Paper Days lodging accommodations have been negotiated with the hotels listed below. Please call the

Days” to secure the special conference rate.
Larry joined TAPPI as President/CEO in 2006. Before
joining TAPPI, he spent nearly a decade with The Newark
Group, an integrated global producer of 100% recycled
paperboard and paperboard products with manufacturing
and marketing operations in North America and Europe.
Larry served as vice president of sales and marketing,
responsible for $185 million in sales. It’s a position he
achieved over a successful 27-year career in sales and
management.
After earning his B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Memphis in 1977, Larry became an account supervisor for the Armour Dial Company. He joined the pulp
and paper industry in 1980 as a market specialist in the
Timber and Wood Products Division of Boise Cascade
Corp., and later served as sales representative for the
Corrugated Container Division. Larry then joined Republic Group Inc., where he first served as sales representative for Republic Gypsum and later as general manager.
In 1991 he was named Vice President of Sales and Marketing as well as G.M. He also served as point person for
Republic’s Acquisition Team.
