La Feria High School Daily Announcements February 26, 2015 Students: Admit slips need to be picked up between 7:30am – 7:55am for any absence(s) whether it is for one period or the entire day. As stated on our student handbook, you must bring in documentation for reason of absence. Be sure to arrive in a timely manner to avoid an unexcused tardy. Attention students and staff, did you have a job at any time during the year and have to complete an income tax return? La Feria High School is now certified to complete basic income tax returns. If you are interested in completing your free tax return please see Mr. Cavazos in room 304. Attention Sophomores and Juniors. On Saturday, March 7th, we will be taking 50 qualified students to visit the University of Texas at Austin for Explore UT. Students that sign up must meet the following criteria: No ISS, DAEP or JJAEP this school year, must be passing all classes in the 4th six weeks, and must be in compliance with attendance records. If you meet the requirements, sign up in the Go Center. Do you want to try out for Gold Stars? Sign-ups will be March 2nd-6th. There will also be an informational meeting on March 4th at 7:30 a.m. There will be a mandatory meeting Thursday afterschool for all BPA members that will be attending the state competition next week in Dallas. Jones High School 1902 North Adams Street Beeville, Texas Admission: Adults $5 Students $3 The La Feria varsity tennis team participated in the Los Fresnos tennis tournament and finished 3rd overall with the following results: Abigail Pecina/Carlos Gamboa- 1st mixed doubles A Samantha Reyna/Kris Rodriguez- 2nd mixed doubles B Ron Mendoza/Ben Mora- 3rd boys’ doubles A Jovany Hensley- 4th boys’ singles A Gabby Reyna- 5th girls’ singles A Violeta Gamboa- 5th girls’ singles B Other team members contributing points were Ashley Avalos, Alma Zimmerle, Sophia Jones, Melanie Martinez, Japheth Rosales, Rick Vargas, and Victor Gamboa Seniors: RGV LEAD would like to announce the release of the 2014 – 2015 RGV LEAD Spaw Glass / TSTC President’s scholarship for $2,000 (2 available). Student must be an RGV LEAD Scholar and planning to attend one of the following programs of study at TSTC to qualify: architectural design, mathematics/engineering, physics, digital media, building construction, and air conditioning/refrigeration. Please see your counselor for more details!!! The Rio Grande Valley Chapter Associated General Contractors of America, Inc. Scholarship application is available in the lobby of the counseling department. Applicants must continue their education in construction or a related field as well as have an 85 or better grade average. The Cameron County Farm Bureau Scholarship application is available in the lobby of the counseling department. A scholarship will be awarded to a High School Senior whose parents' membership is in good standing with the Cameron County Farm Bureau. Deadline is March 1, 2015. The TSTC Student Recruitment Office will be holding a Tech Day for all seniors to come and experience the various career opportunities that a technical education can provide. It will be on March 4. If you’re interested in attending, please pick up a permission slip at the Go Center. There is a deadline to return the permission slips so take care of this as soon as possible. Seniors, the Cameron Willacy Texas A&M Club Scholarship application is available in the lobby of the counseling department. Applicants must intend to attend Texas A&M during the fall of 2015. Applicants must be postmarked by April 1, 2015, late applications will not be considered. The American Association of University Women Scholarship application is available in the lobby of the counseling department. This scholarship is only for female students. Applications must be mailed by Feb. 27th in order to meet the deadline. Seniors, the Stars Scholarship application is available in the lobby of the counseling department. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have earned 12 college hours, and have a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2015. Seniors, the Church's Partner Foundation Scholarship application is available online. Applicants must have a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Deadline is February 27th. Visit with Mrs. Duque-Garcia for more details. Seniors, the Sunburst Rotary Club of Harlingen is giving out $1,000 scholarships to 7 or 8 students from various schools in this area. Applications are being accepted by the postmarked date of April 15, 2015. Pick up an application today in the lobby of the Counseling Department. Attention Seniors: Your caps and gowns will be delivered on Thursday, March 5th during your lunches. All balances must be paid in full before your cap and gown will be delivered to you. If you have NOT ordered your cap and gown, you will need to bring $50.00 on March 5th, cash only, (no checks) so that one can be given to you. Herff Jones will have extra caps and gowns for on the spot purchasing. Any questions or concerns, please direct them to the Herff Jones representatives. Seniors, the Spaw Glass/Texas State Technical College President's Scholarship is available for students who will enroll in a major related to construction management at TSTC. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 27th. Visit http://rgvlead.com/downloads.shtml to download the application. The UTRGV Representative will be here today, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Seniors, If you would like to visit with him to answer your questions, please pick up your pass at the GO CENTER. The TSTC President's Scholarship for Fall 2015 is due March 6! If you plan on attending TSTC in the fall, please come by the Counseling Lobby or meet with your counselor to fill out an application. The South Texas Association of Career & Technical Education Administrators will award 5 $500 scholarships to 5 graduating Seniors who have successfully completed a minimum of 3 credits in a coherent CTE sequence of courses. This means if you took 3 classes that fall under a specific pathway. If you did take these classes, this is the scholarship for you! Come by the Counseling Lobby or see your Counselor for more details. Application is due Friday, March 27.
