AUCC Senior Club Report – Saturday 21st February Saturday was an outstanding day for all three of AUCC`s Senior two-day sides as they all put themselves into strong positions to push for outright victories. AUCC Premier Reserves v Ellerslie – Colin Maiden Park `E` Block Needing outright wins to maintain their challenge for promotion to the Major Championship Nigel Fletcher`s Premier Reserves side put themselves into a strong position to do just that on day one of their match against Ellerslie on CMP`s `E` Block. Rishi Umasuthan and James Partridge were the star performers on day one as both racked up centuries when Varsity batted first. Umasuthan has been in superb form over the last few weeks and he cashed in again on Saturday afternoon combining with Partridge to lead Varsity to a total of 335/2 before they declared. Our boys then piled further misery onto the visitors as they claimed four wickets before the close of play. Fletcher`s side began this game 17 points behind Minor Championship leaders Parnell with two more matches to play after this one. AUCC Premier Reserves 335/2 (J Partridge 120, R Umasuthan 113) plays Ellerslie 60/4 (B Lewis 2/20) after day one. AUCC Senior A1 v Cornwall – Walker Park An outstanding spell of bowling from Nick Wanden has put AUCC`s Senior A1s well and truly into the drivers seat after day one of their match against Cornwall at Walker Park. Varsity were sent into bat on what appeared to be a helpful Walker Park pitch but the depth of the Blue Cobras batting line up shone through with no fewer than eight players making significant contributions to a commanding total of 355 in 75 overs. This left Cornwall with 15 overs to begin their response but their batsmen weren’t able to offer much resistance against Wanden who returned the incredible figures of 8 overs 4/20 to decimate the Cornwall top order. Wanden`s analysis could have been even better had he clung on to a caught and bowled opportunity while his new ball partner Tynan Burkhardt could also have had more than his one wicket had Wanden clung onto two slip catches late in the day. But despite the missed opportunities Varsity remain well on top of the game as Cornwall finished day one of 40/5. AUCC Senior A1 355 (S Wijisooriya 75, R Dunbar 49, J Dineen 42, N Wanden 35, C Buchan 33, J Grupen-Hall 31) plays Cornwall 40/5 (N Wanden 4/20) after day one. AUCC Senior B3 v Eden Roskill – Colin Maiden Park `D` Block AUCC`s Senior B3s have already secured first innings points after a phenomenal first day`s performance against Eden Roskill on CMP`s `D` Block. Donald White won the toss, elected to bat and then watched as his top order racked up an impressive total of 400/7 in just 55 overs. Doug Sainsbury hit his second century of the season while Adisha de Silva brought up his maiden triple figure score for the club in an incredible batting display. White then got in on the action himself taking five wickets as Varsity then ripped through the Roskill line up bowling them out for just 110 inside 20 overs. White was quick to enforce the follow on and, while Roskill were able to emerge non down at the close of play, Varsity will require just 10 wickets on day two to seal the win with a lead which still stands at 260. AUCC Senior B3s 400/7 (D Sainsbury 121, A de Silva 109) plays Eden Roskill 110 (D White 5/30, N Sharma 3/25) & 30/0 after day one.
