THE WAR ON CANCER: ENEMY OF THE STATE
The WHO’s 2014 World Cancer Report projects that in the
next 20 years, cancer cases will surge 75% from 2008
figures, to 25 million per year worldwide. With a staggering
economic cost of over $1 trillion, and a similarly debilitating
social cost, this cancer burden will strain rich countries and
damage poor ones.
WHO ATTENDS?
Bringing cross-sector stakeholders into dialogue on cancer,
Health Care in Asia 2015 will focus firmly and optimistically
on solutions for the countries in Asia-Pacific. We will look
at innovative approaches and solutions across policy and
financing, prevention, early detection, treatment and longterm management.
WHAT TO DISCUSS?
An audience of 180+ senior health care
stakeholders from across Asia-Pacific including
health ministers and policymakers, heads of
businesses, practitioners, NGOs, academics,
and multilateral representatives will convene
to discuss innovative solutions to the cancer
burden. 80% of our past attendees were C-level
executives or with direct reports.
• What is the current state of cancer
control plans around Asia? How prepared
are they for the coming cancer burden?
• Challenges and innovative solutions for
health care systems in Asia
• Case studies: Innovations in technology,
treatment and living with cancer

Panel Discussion: Engaging the private sector in
cancer control
The private sector plays a fundamental role in
the war on cancer. It’s essential the public sector
engages with the private sector as cancer-control
plans are developed. This session will gather a
range of stakeholders for a robust discussion
on how the private sector is adding value and
improving cancer care and outcomes in Asia.

Corporation
Video: Patient voices
To kick-start discussions on cancer control solutions,
we steer our focus towards the most important
beneficiaries of improved outcomes: patients.
Positive patient experiences are often linked to
improved cancer outcomes and lower costs for
healthcare providers. What do patients value
most? In which aspects are they underserved?
How can providers develop better products and
solutions to serve such needs?
In this video, real-life patients will share
perspectives from their journeys in order to
enhance our understanding of their needs.

towards innovation in health systems broadly.
How should health systems be structured to cope
with cancer? This session will gather a range of
stakeholders to brainstorm solutions for optimal
health-care systems in the war on cancer.

Introduction of working groups
The working groups are highly interactive sessions
which aim to generate ideas for solutions, by
convening the forum’s multi-stakeholders in
discussion. Thought-provoking case studies
of best-practice initiatives and innovation will
act as catalysts for discussion, while discussion
leaders—experts in their field—will help shape the
proceedings. Outcomes and potential solutions will
be reported back in the next session: Improving
Asia’s cancer-control systems.
