UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble (TSSEC)
Letter of Intent to Participate
February 25, 2015
It is time to decide if you want to participate in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (TSSEC) that
will be held on Friday, May 29th, 2015. The school district will pay for charter bus transportation and
entry fee(s) for your participation in this event.
To insure your commitment to participate in this competition, a “performance deposit” is required from
each student prior to their entry being submitted. The deposit will be in the amount of $50. This
“deposit” is to help cover expenses incurred in the event the student does not attend and perform. This
deposit will be refunded once the student has attended and performed at the contest. This
check/payment will be collected by the director and held until completion of performance obligations.
After performance at the state competition, this “performance deposit” will be refunded directly to the
student. Please make your check payable to Katy ISD Fine Arts Department. Students must pay this
deposit no later than Friday, March 6th. Because of the necessity in securing transportation and
performance scheduling, once the student has entered, the deposit is non-refundable, if the student
does not attend and perform. Because the date of the contest is during the school year, eligibility rules
will apply. Students will need to be eligible at the end of the Fifth Six Weeks grading period in order to
participate.
Because this is a state-level competition with over 10,000 competitors, the exact schedule will be
determined by the UIL Office in Austin by May 15th. You will need to make plans to catch the bus early
in the morning (4:00a) and be ready to perform at any time during the day.
