President’s Message
Dear Members:
HOW ABOUT THOSE SEA HA WKS? IT WAS A GOOD SEA SON!
I hope you all had a great February and hav e had the opportunity to enjoy the w eather w e have had. I w ish
there w as snow in the mountains but I w ill take w hat w e have.
We had a great time at the Super Bow l Party. We had about 48 members and friends to fill our oversized living r oom and the Seahaw ks did not disappoint us, it w as a good game even in defeat. Just think 30 other
teams just did not even make it to the super bow l. There w as lots of food, fun, and some pretty excited members w ho w ere enjoy ing the game.
I w ant to thank Mary and her crew for the w onderful dinner w e w ere all able to enjoy at our February lodge
meeting. I also w ant to thank Telvin Slattum for sneaking into the kitchen and doing dishes w hile w e are in
the meeting. Telvin it does not go unnoticed and I thank you. I know w e all enjoy the dinners. We could use
additional help to get the lodge and kitchen cleaned up after the meetings. I know sometimes it might be late
but it w ould be gr eatly appreciated. Many hands make less w ork for all. Who know s you may even get a
“SKOLL”
We are now in Sew er mode and the par king lot w ill be torn up for the next few w eeks. We are planning to
continue w ith all events and w ill w ork around the par king lot as w e have been told the lot w ill be covered and
there w ill be no holes show ing, still w e w ant to be careful. We w ill be as king for help in the parking lot to ensure w e can get our members and guests to all our activities.
March 7t h the kids are hosting a Viking Toast Breakfast for camp. Don’t forget to come and support them.
Heritage Day is on the 14th of March and w e are hoping for a great turn out to continue to show the different
cultural s kills and cooking classes that w e provide here at the lodge. This day also gives us the opportunity to
show the community some of our heritage, ancestry and cultural pr ide that w e have received from our elders
and teachers.
The next lodge meeting w ill be on March 19th and w ill include a w onderful corned beef and c abbage dinner
starting at 6:30PM follow ed by a short meeting afterw ards. We ar e having a Membership dinner on the 29th of
March beginning at 3 PM. Please read the infor mation prov ided in the new sletter and remember to RSV P so
w e know you & your guests w ill be attending. If you bring a friend w ho is not a member, your dinner and your
friends is covered by the lodge.
I w ish to thank all the members for the har d w ork you are doing to keep our lodge one of the best in District 2.

SOCIAL DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Kay Schertzl
February Fun- the evening began with Mary Lawson's delicious meatloaf dinner. I introduced the
program on Norwegian kings. Occasionally throughout the year, some of them will come to tell
you about themselves. We've started way back in 875 with Harald Fairhair, considered to be the
first king of a united Norway. Thanks to Eric Stavney, Carl Stavney, and Wayne Lawson for presenting the first 3 of them. The rest of the evening accomplished the business of the night along
with a lot of laughs.
March Memorial and Music- the March meal will be our traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage by
Mike Nelson. We will hold our annual memorial service to remember lodge members who have
passed on the previous year. Then we will learn and have fun singing 2 or 3 favorite Norwegian
songs.
Come enjoy our 3 "M" night... Meal, Memorial & Music. Maybe we'll even have some M & M's!

Norwegian Heritage Day is a day of celebrating all that is Norwegian. Our famous baked
goods like rosettes, (not fattingmann) potato lefse, aebleskiver, heart shaped waffles and
krumkake will be demonstrated and samples available. Our heritage is also well known for
our knitting, weaving, rosemaling, and hardanger sewing. Samples will be on display and
sign-up sheets will be available for these classes. Genealogist, Greg Holter, will assist you in
researching a family member. You can sign-up with him, for a one-hour session between
9AM and 2PM on Sunday March 15.Two fjord horses will graze on our front lawn…be sure to
stop by and visit them and their owners. Last years’ owner, Kristen, was so thrilled to hear

LIBRARY CORNER
Anyone studying Norwegian can now check out from our Library an excellent English
to Norwegian dictionary thanks to the generosity of Wendy Wight. My own dictionary is Norwegian to English, and I had to go to Norway to get a good English to Norwegian dictionary from my cousin, a schoolteacher. We have an excellent textbook, a
copy of which I have in my own library and can attest to. There are also two Norwegian course books
that are excellent. As a bonus, included is a tape so one can listen to the Norwegian language. The most
difficult part of learning any language is understanding it when one hears it. Reading for understanding is
the easiest part; hearing and understanding are the hardest. Also, anyone traveling to Norway can now
check out some phrase books, written specifically for the traveler. One is a small Berlitz dictionary. We
also have a magnificent complete, illustrated Atlas of the World for the traveler, courtesy of Wayne Lawson. Spring is approaching, giving any traveler enough time to brush up his or her language skills.

SUNSHINE REPORT
January 23 - A Belated Birthday Card was sent to Virginia Livingston. She was 94
years old earlier this month.
February 6 - A Birthday Card was sent to Albert Albright. He will be 93 years old on February 12.
February 12 - A Thinking of You - Get Well Card was sent to Kaja Englund. She had a heart attack and had been in the hospital.
A note from Manda Hosheit:
The night of the Membership Appreciation dinner was also the day of my 93rd birthday. Betty
McGee had let the members know that I would be attending that evening.
When I arrived at the lodge that evening, I was led to the kitchen, where I was shown a cake that
Chris Hicks had decorated with the words ‘Happy Birthday!” The cake was served for desert and
was delicious.
When dinner was served President Bill, with his fine etiquette skills, escorted me and my table to
be first in line, to enjoy the fine Lutefisk dinner prepared by Mike Nelson and his crew. What a
great night it was, I felt very special.
